La Cage Aux Folles 20 July – 4 August 2012 Esplanade Theatre
La Cage aux Folles 20 July – 4 August 2012 Esplanade Theatre Press Release 3rd April 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ESPLANADE SET TO SPARKLE WITH W!LD RICE’S LA CAGE AUX FOLLES LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, Broadway’s most fabulous musical comedy, arrives on our shores this July in a divine new production by Singapore’s sexiest theatre company, W!LD RICE. Boasting an international cast, spectacular sets, lavish costumes, snazzy dance routines and truly heart- warming songs, this boisterous and uplifting musical is a grand celebration of family and love. With director Glen Goei at the helm, this 11 time Tony award winner will be given a total makeover in the inimitable W!LD RICE style. By his side and leading a powerhouse cast of 22 performers, Ivan Heng plays Albin, an aging cabaret star plagued by mid-life insecurity. Following the success of Emily of Emerald Hill, this new collaboration between the two theatre doyens promises to raise the bar yet again. WILD RICE is proud to present two of Malaysia’s finest musical theatre talents, Tony Eusoff and Aaron Khaled. Making their Singapore debuts with LA CAGE, the pair will play the lead roles of George (Albin’s partner) and John (George’s son). Supporting them and providing much of the musical’s comic relief is a lineup of Singapore’s best: Hossan Leong, Karen Tan, Darius Tan, Tan Kheng Hua, Brendon Fernandez and Judee Tan. No musical is complete without a singing and tap dancing chorus line. 13 tall, beautiful, feisty and rather dangerous showgirls known as Les Cagelles have been cast from Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Australia, U.S.A and the United Kingdom. -
For Immediate Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "With its striking black and white sets, the weaving of strains from a string quartet, and not to mention, the all-male cast, W!LD RICE's production of The Importance of Being Earnest is certainly the most arresting local rendition of Oscar Wilde's last and most oft-produced play... visually ravishing and, especially in this day and age, extremely compelling." - SPH The Business Times 17 December 2012 – In April 2013, W!LD RICE will present its radical and absolutely ‘W!LD’ interpretation of Oscar Wilde’s THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, at the Drama Centre Theatre. The original sold-out three-weeK run in 2009 won critical and popular acclaim for director Glen Goei’s provocative casting of an all-male ensemble, its masterful performances, and slick and sophisticated production design. It went on to win three awards at the 2010 Life! Theatre Awards for Best Production, Best Supporting Actor (Chua Enlai) and Best Costume Design (FredericK Lee). The production also gleaned nominations for Best Director (Glen Goei) and Best Supporting Actor (Ivan Heng). THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST features a sensational international cast. Singapore’s most acclaimed actors including Ivan Heng, Hossan Leong, Chua Enlai, Brendon Fernandez and Crispian Chan return, and are joined again by Daniel York from London and Gavin Yap from Kuala Lumpur. A new addition to the ensemble will be Lim Kay Siu who replaces Zahim AlbaKri as Rev. Canon Chasuble. Putting paid to Wilde’s credo that “style, not sincerity, is the vital thing”, the company is dressed to the nines by Frederick Lee, and accompanied live by The Ensemble Dimension Players, a quartet brought together under the T’ang Quartet’s The Ensemble Dimension Project. -
