I hope you are all doing well and staying safe. I would like to say thank you to the Lions that came out and met up with me when I was delivering the directory packages--especially Lion Judith who met Lion Wendy and I at the edge of her driveway with an ice-cream. It was very much appreciated. I enjoyed meeting each one of you, and I got to see some amazing scenery on my travels. It was nice to see so many Lions who attended PDG Debbie’s Necrology Service last month. I think it was very well done. “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confi- dence.” - Helen Keller It will not be long September will be here, and the schools will open for the students to attend. Think about reaching out to your schools and see if there is anything with which they need assis- tance. We are in uncertain times, and each and every little thing we do can make a difference in someone’s life. If your club has a special project, reach out to our NS Lion Editor, Lion Tracey. She is always looking for new material for Face Book page or in the NS Lion. Also, it is that time of year to start thinking about the Peace Poster Contest. Don’t forget to order your kit from LCI. With Covid, it might take a little longer to reach you. Remember to keep in touch with your members. Try and hold a meeting in person, even if it is in someone’s garage like Annapolis Royal Lions did or hold a virtual meeting on Zoom, if that is not possible. Communication is the key to keeping a club active and motivated. Stay safe, stay strong, and keep on helping your communities like you always do. Remember our motto. CANADIAN MARITIMES 2016 19 June - 17 August 2016 SMART Canadian Maritimes Caravan 2016 19 June - 17 August 2016 Wagon Masters: Carl and Gwen Hopper Assistant Wagon Masters: Mark and Linda Avey The 2016 Canadian Maritimes Caravan started and ended in Hermon, Maine, and covered over 3,000 miles in the Maritime Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island. We started the trip with 19 rigs but unfortunately lost one in Monc- ton, New Brunswick ,due to an accident. No one was seriously injured, but we had to continue on with only 18 rigs. Some of the highlights of this trip included the Bay of Fundy with 25-foot tides, the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, rides on the Bluenose II and Amoeba sailing vessels, whale watching tours, and some of the most beautiful and breathtaking scenery in the world. Some of our group even took a day trip to Labrador, while others sailed out of St. Anthony, Newfoundland, to view icebergs and whales. We enjoyed many caravan-sponsored dinners with lots of lobster and other seafood. This was an amazing trip which was made even more enjoyable by the outstanding people who traveled with us. Many thanks to all who contributed time and effort to make this a truly memorable trip. This attractive city is a bustling hub of art galleries, shops, museums, restaurants, sidewalk cafes and vibrant nightlife centered around the picturesque waterfront.
