SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES Safety Day A special assembly on SAFTEY DAY was conducted on April 2 with a thought and an enlightening article on Safety. A quiz on the safety norms was conducted to make the children aware of the different ways of being safe at home and at school. Introductory Assembly An assembly was held for classes I and II on 11.06.12 in which all the teachers of Class I and II were introduced to the students. The teachers were called on stage along with a „tag line‟, which was the unique feature of the teacher. This tag line was basically a describing word for an individual, starting with the same initial as the name like Super Ms. Sabina Ma‟am, Sincere Ms. Sangeeta and so on… Rakshabandhan Assembly Special assemblies on the occasion of Rakshabandhan were held for classes I and II and III- V on 31.07.12. The assemblies included a historical story on Rakshabandhan, song and dance. Other than that a tribute to the Kargil soldiers was given by showing a video clipping on the Kargil war. The program also included a Shradhanjali to the writer Premchand. Students spoke about other festivals in the month of August like „Gogamedi Fair‟ (of Rajasthan), „Janamashtami‟, „Red Earth‟ (The Monsoon Festival), „Jhapan‟ (The Snake Festival), „Onam‟, „Independence Day‟ and „Snake Boat Race‟. A lovely enactment was done by the students to show the beautiful bond of love between a brother and a sister. Janmashtami Special Assemblies were organised on 06.08.12 and 07.08.12 for classes I and II and classes III- V respectively to celebrate the festival of Janmashtami. A short story on Lord Krishna‟s birth and childhood was shown to the children through a PPT and was narrated as well. The “मटकी फोड़ ”enactment was amazing. The participants were very eager to make the pyramid. They broke the “मटकी” with great enthusiasm. The chanting of “Krishna Dhun” by the teachers and students gave the feel of the festival. The children of classes I and II danced on the song “मैया यशोदा ये तेरा कन्हैया” and a spectacular dance performance on Lord Krishna was presented by the students of Class IV. To inculcate the awareness about environment a video clipping “GO GREEN” was shown to the students. Independence Day Special Assemblies to celebrate Independence Day were held on 13.08.12 and 14.08.12 for classes I and II and classes III- V respectively. Children had disguised themselves as different freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Mangal Pande, Rani Lakshamibai, Rabindranath Tagore etc. They even explained the role they had played to fight for the freedom of our country. The patriotic songs were played to bring the zest of the Independence Day. The assembly hall was echoing with the song “Chak de India Chak de”, on which a dance was presented. A student of Class IV gave a speech on Independence Day. Children sang patriotic song “Chodo Kal ki bate……” to bring the zest of the Independence Day. Students also presented a colorful dance. Teachers’ Day To felicitate the teachers, a special assembly was held on 03.09.12 in “Abhivyakti” for classes I AND II on the occasion of “Teachers‟ Day.” The children presented different programmes. Students paid tribute to Dr. Radhakrishnan by saying a few lines about the great personality, in whose memory we celebrate Teachers‟ Day. The highlight of the assembly was the prayer dance “Hey Sharde Maa” choreographed by the students themselves to entertain their teachers. Hindi Diwas th 14 September is celebrated as “हहन्दी हदवस” every year (as on 14th September 1949, “हहन्दी” was declared official language by the Constitutional Assembly). Special assemblies were held to commemorate this day on 10.09.12 for classes I and II and on 11.09.12 for classes III – V in Abhivyakti. The assemblies comprised of an introduction of “हहन्दी हदवस”, a poem on the importance of Hindi language and the NEWS and Thought of The Day in Hindi as well as in English. The children recited a poem “Meri Gudia” and a song “Meri Maa” in Hindi and a Qawalli on Hindi grammar enthralled the audience. The use of grammar in day to day life was brought out beautifully through a short skit. The stage was brought alive with „Panna Dhai‟ a drama depicting the historic era. A beautiful song was sung by a student of class V H accompanied with the guitar. Children of class I and II also learnt a Hindi prayer to be said before break. “धन्यवाद हम देते तुमको, तुमने हमको सब कु छ हदया, दनु नया दी है प्यारी-प्यारी, खाना खट्टा-मीठा”! Ganesh Chaturthi Special assemblies were conducted on Ganesh Chaturthi on 17.09.12 for classes I and II and on 18.09.12 for classes III –V. The assemblies began with a prayer „Ganpati Mantra‟. Ganesh Arti was sung by the students. A shloka was recited and its meaning was explained. The children shared a lot of information about Lord Ganesha such as His almighty has 108 names, people worship him before starting any good work in their life and His almighty brings success, harmony, knowledge and fulfills every body‟s wishes. The children also explained the story of „Full Moon” and “Amavsya” through a skit and a story based on how a Mushaka (rat) became Bal Ganesha's means of transport was also shown in an animated video clipping. A well choreographed dance praising Lord Ganesha was also presented. A dance performance on “Ganesh Vandna” was also presented by Pratiksha from class 1-C. Navratri A special assembly was held to celebrate the occasion of Navratri on 22.10.12 in Abhivyakti for classes I and II. It started with „Thought for the Day‟. A student shared his views beautifully on “Care & Compassion”, the value of the month. A “Doha” related to Navratri was presented by the students. The information about Navratri was provided by the students disguised as nine goddesses. The assembly ended with “Garba”, the most popular dance of Gujarat. The students clad in traditional outfits, exhibited an electrifying performance. Eid-ul-Zuha A special assembly on Eid-ul-Zuha was held on Thursday, 25 Oct. 2012 at the academic courtyard in DPS Bopal. The programme began with a thought presented by Aangi Jain followed by a prayer recited by Zaid Memmon and Mohammad Raiyyam. This was followed by a tableau depicting the scene in a traditional Muslim household on the eve of “Bakri Eid”. A skit was enacted by the students informing them of the historical significance of “Eid –ul - Zoha”. The programme concluded with a Quawali sung by the students with the audience joining the proceedings. The students clad in traditional outfits, exhibited an endearing performance. It was an informative as well as an entertaining assembly. Diwali Diwali, the festival of lights, is the biggest and the brightest of all Hindu festivals. Special assemblies were organized on 09.11.12 and 06.11.12 for classes I and II and III- V respectively to celebrate Diwali in Abhivyakti. A talk on the significance of this festival, a joyful song and a dance celebrating the spirit of Diwali were the part of the assemblies. Children also enjoyed the Ramayana and got a message -that Diwali symbolizes the victory of good (Ram) over evil (Ravan). The song of saving the trees was to make them aware the preciousness of trees in the day to day life. Aarti of Goddess Lakshmi was done by our H.M. Ms. Sabina Sawhney and the staff members which left everybody‟s hearts aglow with joy and happiness. A message of an Eco-Friendly and safe Diwali was also conveyed by our H.M. The assemblies ended with the Diwali message that “light will conquer darkness, good will overcome evil and that goodness always prospers”. French Assembly Students from classes 6 to 10 actively participated in the show. The assembly started off with a song by the students of class 6 and 7, followed by a skit which had the audience in peals of laughter. A word game was conducted by students of class 10 and information on France and its culture was brought to the audience through a mime. The students of classes 9 and 10 sang two songs and the audience couldn‟t help but tap their feet to the music. The last performance in the assembly was a beautifully choreographed dance and it was very well appreciated. Vive l'Assemblée française!! Christmas Delhi Public School celebrated Christmas through a special assembly on 22 December, 2012 which sought to capture the spirit of the festive season. The secularism of India was represented by the choir group which had students from different religions, all lending their voices to a medley of Christmas carols while the nativity scene was put up by students of class 7. This was followed by a skit, on how man is easily tempted by the seven vices followed by a dance. The last assembly of calendar year ended with Santa Claus' appearance, which was greeted with joyous clapping by the students and a message by our Principal, Ms. Sangeeta Kain. Uttarayan Special assemblies on 10.01.13 were held to celebrate Makar Sakranti, Uttarayan, Lohri and Pongal for classes I and II and III- V in Abhivyakti. The mood in the campus was upbeat and the students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit. The assemblies started with the prayers and a prayer song. The New Year was welcomed followed by thought for the day “God is everywhere” which was highlighted through a small story narrated by the students.
