Your Speed Watch needs you

As you will be aware Rotherwick has a Speed Indicator Display (SID) sited on various posts around the village, covering all entry points including Lyde Green. This information is downloaded and monitored by John Bennett to build a picture of the speed activity around the parish. In addition teams of individuals undertake monitoring at differing sites in the village as part of the community speedwatch initiative by Hamp- shire Constabulary, where members of the public become 'police sup- port volunteers' to monitor traffic speed within the 30mph zones. If found speeding the vehicle details are reported to the police who then send letters to the registered owner stating that the car has been re- ported speeding. We are short of volunteers to support these speedwatch monitoring ses- sions and would welcome new members, you will be required to give up an hour or two from time to time and will be given training. For more information please contact Lucy Bardwell 01256 766314.

Rotherwick Hedges & Verges

Features of our beautiful village are the rural hedges and green verges, these are part of the character mentioned in the Rother- wick Neighbourhood Development Plan as being very important to the village and the residents. “Many of the hedges are in beech, yew and traditional rural mixed hedging, commonly between around 1.2 to 2.5m in height so they hide the building from the road. These hedges, along with the many mature trees and grass verges, all contribute to the rural character of Rotherwick.” To maintain these beautiful features the Par- ish Council would politely ask that residents tend to their hedges (also for road safety/visibility) and discourage visitors from parking on these rural verges, as the weather is now turning and they can become mud- dy and damaged. Hook and Odiham RFC

I’m delighted to report that after a challenging start, Hook and Odiham RFC have got back to winning ways having rec- orded our first victory of the season in a friendly match away to Alresford 2nd XV on 7 October. We’re particularly grateful to Alresford for hosting us as they stepped in at short notice when our scheduled league opposition United Services 2nds were unable to field a team, awarding us points for an away walkover. Having banked our first victory, the team went on to achieve two successive convincing wins in the league, beating Farn- borough 2nds 27-6 at home on 21 October and Eastleigh 3rds 8-28 away on 28 October. This leaves Hook and Odiham sitting in 3rd place in the league after 7 matches at the time of filing this report. December sees just two league fixtures, both away, but we’ll be back at Rotherwick playing fields for our first home fix- ture of 2018 against Winchester Knights on 6 January. What a great opportunity to come and blow those New Year cobwebs away by coming to support us! If you want to follow our progress in the meantime, please go to hookandodihamrfc.co.uk and may we wish all our well- wishers and supporters in the area a very happy Christmas.

Police Update

Rotherwick together with Hook, , , and all fall within the Hart Rural North police beat. Our beat is one of two in the North Sec- tor of Hart, the other being a town neighbourhood that co- vers lately, Blackwater, Hawley and . Our beat officers PCSO Sonia Gahan, PCSO Nick Greenwood and PC Will Jones hold a quarterly Police and Communities Togeth- er (PACT) meeting with representatives from Parish Councils to set the policing priorities for the next quarter, report on crimes for the past quarter and discuss any specific issues that are raised.

Beat priorities this year were switched from domestic vio- lence to burglary following a spate of local crimes. This has been elevated and is currently the (Police) District priority. Some items including tractors have been recovered and some lines of enquiry are being actively pursued. We are ex- pecting more news at the next meeting in January 2018. The local priority over the summer was anti-social behaviour. Fol- lowing a large number of casual thefts from cars in surround- ing areas, this vehicle crime has been set as the local priority through to the New Year.

If have a view or issue you would like raised at the PACT meeting in January please get in touch with one of your Par- ish Councillors or contact the Clerk. The Hampshire Police also support communities through Hants Alert (Hampshirealert.co.uk). Once registered you receive notice of emergency road closures and can opt in to a number of other options including the Rotherwick Neighbourhood Watch.
