MESSAGE

Knowledge is more than just knowing, it is also about being. Learning is one aspect of education but the space that the learning creates within you is what knowledge is. Many saints in our history were not educated but they spread wisdom all around. It is one's state of being from where knowledge flows. Knowledge is a combination of knowing and being, learning and unlearning. I congratulate the graduating students of this year as they move to a new phase of growth outside the campus.

Blessings and Best Wishes

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

5 message from the director operations

Mr. Narendra Lamba Director Operartions Sri Sri University

A farmer used to win the award for ‘Best Crop’ in the region every year. When a journalist asked him for the secret behind his repeated victories, the farmer responded simply “I use the best seed available in the market and I share my seed with my neighbouring filed owners as well. Sharing my high quality seeds with neighbors is probably the only unique thing I do. If they use poor quality seed, then the weeds will grow in their fields and will come to my field and spoil the crop.” It is only wise to surround ourselves with the right people and help them in any and every appropriate way.

Let us share the seeds of happiness in our neighbourhood and their neighbourhood and make our society more harmonious than what we had got. That is our dakshina.

I congratulate and wish good luck to all the graduates.

UMBRELLA An umbrella is functional when its user will unfold the umbrella. And when in rain and you open the umbrella, then this umbrella almost behaves like a temporary shelter. A university is a shelter for teaching faculty, administrative staff and students. All other stake holders and residents in campus at SRI SRI UNIVERSITY, also can open to SRI SRI UNIVERSITY as their shelter. Here, people in the year one, is a beginner. They are justified, to experience an ignorance of infrastructure, departments, other officers and fellow students. But then there, is an indicator for quality of the umbrella. The person, who arrives to this shelter of education, is cared for, made to feel, the welcome. SRI SRI UNIVERSITY can be treated as a home, to those who enroll as a new candidate.

Academic disciplines, educational methods apart, SRI SRI UNIVERSITY has matured to, hand hold the seeker and learner, through their survival to more mature stages. Soon these new enrollments, graduate to be mentor to junior aspirants. The seniors, support and encourage the vulnerable students and slow learners. The Human Resources infrastructure is equipped to consult to those who need more attention.

The teaching personnel are sincere to keep vigil, to enable conceptual learning in the students. The environment is being built so that, the performance and productivity are optimized.

There are multiple personality development programs at SRI SRI UNIVERSITY. These techniques empower and enrich the practitioners. The practitioners of breathing and meditations, learn to endure and accept educational pressures. They get the keenness to do experiential and factual learning. The meditation practices, increases capacity to grasp and absorb the topic and stream of the lessons and education. Assimilating, comprehending and studying new subjects must become, the initiative and interest in the student.

SRI SRI UNIVERSITY, has evolved in to a campus that works to develop aptitude in the seekers and students and learners. Excellency is the target. Expertise is goal. Brilliance is the method. The sport and outdoor games at SRI SRI UNIVERSITY, keeps the athletic students and others as tough and strong. Keeping fit with good stamina is essential. With lots of research, the students discover the avenues of holistic education.

I am proud to be a part of this umbrella and shelter. The SRI SRI UNIVERSITY is certainly showing signs of graduating in to a home, to those who decided to enroll.

My congratulations to those students, who graduates today. They will convey the light from SRI SRI UNIVERSITY.

My congratulations to the parents of the students. You bestowed upon them, your shining decisions and choice of SRI SRI UNIVERSITY. We can, bring this light to all places, that we go to. Here is the demonstration of an educational home.

45 VICE CHANCELLOR’S ANNUAL REPORT: 2017-2018

Good Morning, Pranam.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to our 5th Graduation Ceremony and present a brief report highlighting our activities and achievements during the last academic year.

At the outset, I extend a warm welcome to our Chief Guest the Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, who found time in the midst of his highly engaging schedule to grace this occasion. This speaks volumes about the concern he has for education. Your Excellency, we are honoured with your presence.

Poojya Gurudev, my pranam at your Lotus Feet. We are divinely blessed with your presence and I have no word to express my gratitude.

The University is honoured by the presence of Shri Pratap Jena, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Law and I & PR and Shri Ananta Das, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education and Industries, Govt. of Odisha. Sirs, we are aware that in spite of so many important assignments today, you have decided to be with us to bless the graduating students. That speaks of your love for the youth and this unique upcoming university.

All the members of the SSU family are honoured and grateful to the distinguished dignitaries on dais and in the audience, who have graced this occasion. May I take this opportunity to congratulate all the graduands for completing their studies successfully.

46 Graduation is the time of celebration and triumph, and marks the end of one phase and beginning of another. It is a very proud moment for the graduates, parents and teachers who have all played their part in the end result. All of you have worked hard with focus, determination and discipline and your teachers have given you their best. They have also encouraged and motivated you to perform optimally and achieve the desired result.

Your parents have made many sacrifices in the last few years and provided you the enabling environment at home along with financial and moral support to help you through this phase. The parents may not always be right in what they say to you—but believe me, whatever they say or do is because they genuinely believe that it is in the best interest of their children. If you are faced with a challenge, remember—parents love you unconditionally, and will help you through the ups and downs, and the sooner you share the issues with them, remedial measures are less expensive, less painful and solutions come faster. To the parents - trust your child for we often underestimate their ability to deal with issues and create a relationship and an environment of dialogue regardless of the issue.

I thank our learned academic staff for their commitment to duty. You have done your utmost in encouraging and motivating these students to perform at and achieve the end result. The other members of staff have also played their part for which we are grateful. You have been organizing and cleaning the rooms and running the places these students learned and were taught in. You have been providing all the facilities and services they used during their time here. You worked in libraries and as lab technicians to support their learning. You have cooked and served the food that kept them going, so that they could reach one of the most important celebrations of their lives.

Dear graduates, SSU has prepared you not just on the academic front, but has also taught you the life skills that will help you in facing the challenges in this competitive world.

I am highly indebted to Poojya Gurudev for his visionary guidance from time to time. At the same time, I am grateful to the members of the Board of Governors, Academic Council and SSRVM, the Founding Trust, for their continued and unconditional help and advice.

On this auspicious day, my advice to you, dear graduating students, is - march ahead without fear, with all the knowledge and values acquired in this great university. As the world outside offers you both challenges and opportunities, I am sure that you will forge your way ahead towards happiness and success confidently, taking in your stride both, as situations in life may call upon, with the all-time dependable wisdom acquired at the University. I earnestly hope that as the torch-bearers of wisdom, you will remain undeterred on the path of righteousness in your selfless dedication to service of humanity. These are not merely words of advice but in essence, expression of the ethos and values that signify Sri Sri University. While it may so appear that we are engaged in performing our individual roles in one capacity or another, our actions today will determine the future of - not only this university or our country or the world alone but of entire humanity. It is through our collective presence here that history is being created as we stand committed to translating Poojya Gurudev’s vision of holistic education into reality and every convocation is a milestone in that direction.

As such, today’s occasion allows us the opportunity to reflect on the journey that we have undertaken as a family, of the year that has passed. While some members of faculty and

47 staff and also the student community decided to part ways in pursuit of their individual quests, I can say with pride, there are many more onboard who rejoice their presence today. During the academic year 2017-18, the campus was abuzz with activities which enabled students to hone their skills holistically and become ever-ready for future. This mainly included:

Commencement Day – The 5th Commencement Day of the University was held on 20 July, 2017 in which the students availed the opportunity of listening to the words of inspiration of Mrs. Rajita Kulkarni Bagga, President, Sri Sri University, Mr Narendra Lamba and other members of the leadership team.

SSU Ranking

The University added a feather to its cap by the end of the academic year 2017-18 as it ranked 13th among the top 25 private and deemed universities in the country in a survey conducted by Higher Education Review, a popular magazine on higher education in its special issue on university rankings.

54 Ladies and Gentlemen, the University has over the last six years invested a substantial amount of money in the creation and improvement of its physical infrastructure. We have initiated and completed many new ones including Hall of Residence- Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhavan, lecture theatres, laboratories and offices. Our ICT infrastructure is relatively well developed and the University encourages the use of computers by students and members of staff. Being among the best technologically equipped institutions of higher learning, SSU maintains the ratio of use of PCs/laptops by staff at 1:1 and for students at 1:5. The governance structure of the University has evolved in a very matured and stable manner during the last three years as a benefit of which there is uninterrupted and disciplined running of academic programmes.

A number of reformshave also been made in the examination system and the University has the rare distinction of declaring the results within 10-15 days of the conduct of examinations.

The Management of the University is doing the best it can under the circumstances to position SSU as a world-class institution of higher learning though the challenges are many, funding being an important one in the list. This is compounded by the fact that there is no government support for private institutions, even those which are running unique programmes like ours.

This year, our graduate numbering 317 with 45% Females include 2 Doctoral Degrees, 132 Master’s Degrees, 5 PG Diploma and 178 Bachelor’s Degrees. The Statistics I have provided, are no mean achievement for a small and relatively young University such as ours! Partly, these statistics represent our contribution to the production of high level skills and to broader Human Capacity Development in the Country and the whole World.

Finally, I take this opportunity of wishing all the graduates all the very best in their future endeavours. To the teaching staff, keep up your excellent work in shaping the future leaders and may God bless you all.

Thank you
