PURPOSE OF THE REPORT 1 To update the Forum on the outcome of English Heritage’s Heritage at Risk survey of 2008, as the attached table of at risk sites was still confidential information at the time of the last meeting. B. PROPOSED ACTION 2 The Forum is invited to: NOTE the conclusions of the survey C. RESOURCE IMPLICATIONS 3 None directly from reporting but potentially major where repairs or mitigation required to buildings, landscapes or ancient monuments. D. SUPPORTING INFORMATION 4 The table annexed to this report summarises the current situation in Buckinghamshire compared to the averages for the South East and England. It also extends northward to include the Shallow ridge with valley to the west of Wing and Burcott. settlement Wide valley between the Landscape character A shallow ridge which extends south from the plateau ridge and the clay landscape to the north and is defined by the Vale landscape to the south. The plateau ridge is also defined to the north by a wide local valley. The village of Aston Abbotts-Wingrave Wingrave sits on the ridge. There are long distance views over the Vale watershed drains into landscape to the south and in particular from the southern edge of Wingrave. Ouzel and Thame Mentmore House and parkland sits on the eastern end of the ridge. At catchments Mentmore there are long distance views towards Ascott House and the Large arable fields in southern edge of Wing and eastwards over the Ouzel Valley. Medieval valley bottom earthworks feature at Crafton. Smaller paddocks and pastureland on steeper The local valley to the west of Wing and its associated tributaries have shaped upper slopes the landform into a rolling landscape of small grazing parcels enclosed by Long distance views mature hedges.

Minutes of the Mentmore Parish Council Meeting held on Tuesday 20 th May 2014 at the Village Hall, Mentmore at 8.15pm. Present: Councillors; Jonathan Langley (Chairman), Simon O’Shea (Vice Chairman) and Peter Brazier. District Councillor Peter Cooper Mrs L Byrom, Clerk to the Council 5 members of the public 1. Attendance and Apologies There were none. 2. Public Question Time (10 minutes) There were no questions from the members of the public present. 3. Disclosures of Interest on items pertaining to the agenda Cllr Langley declared an interest under planning, to apply for permission to remove the trees/shrubs by the former telephone box as they were opposite his house and he considered their removal to be a benefit. 4. To approve minutes of the Parish Council Meeting held on Wednesday 8 th January 2014 It was PROPOSED, SECONDED and RESOLVED that the minutes of the meeting held on 8 th January 2014 were approved as a correct record and signed by the Chairman. 5. Neighbourhood Action Group/Police Matters The Police did not report at the meeting as they had attended the Annual Meeting of the Parish which immediately preceded this meeting and gave their report at that meeting. 6. To receive reports from District and County Councillors Cllr Peter Cooper thanked Marc Sharman for taking on the Chairmanship of the Parish Council at a difficult time and for getting things back on an even keel. Cllr Cooper reported that in Aylesbury, planning permission had been granted for a new Sainsburys in Gatehouse Road with a petrol station.

THE ZAIDA TABLE AN IMPORTANT INLAID CALAMANDER AND COPPER-MOUNTED VIENNA SECESSION TABLE BY PORTOIS & FIX, AUSTRIA, CIRCA 1900 DESCRIPTION The circular top veneered in calamander (diospyros spp.), cross-banded and strung in concentric circles with holly, ebony and exotic cabinet timbers, enclosing radiating parquetry panels above a tapering stepped frieze, over a central pentagonal pedestal with five square-section flying serpentine brackets, each inlaid with a stylised marquetry panel of pitch pine, the corners of the copper-mounted pentagonal plinth base decorated with pierced hearts, on notional bracket feet; the three leaves and underside of the table with remains of old labels; the leaves stencilled and signed in pencil J.J.W.P.O 6 Einlage Einlegen; in excellent original condition throughout, small marks commensurate with age and use, retaining all the original mounts and three of the six original pine extension leaves. DIMENSIONS Height: 30 ¾” (78cm); diameter: 55” (140cm); extended: 79” (201cm). The preservation of archaeological and historical significance will be the main consideration in assessing the suitability of proposals to convert martello towers for residential use. 206 HERITAGE AT RISK SOUTH EAST 207 SE HERITAGE AT RISK 2008 Of the 233 Grade I and II* listed building and structural scheduled monument at risk entries on the 1999 South East baseline register, 101 entries (43%) have been removed as their futures have been secured.This year’s list contains 169 building at risk entries, 5 fewer than 2007. In addition, 6 protected ship wrecks and 1 registered battlefield at risk are included for the first time. Whilst just under £800,000 (or 75%) of our grant budget was directed towards sites on the list, the majority was towards works in progress, and only one of the entries removed this year (the Waller Tomb, South Buckinghamshire) received funding from us. Change of ownership has been the key factor in the removal of a number of entries this year. For example, a notable success has been the removal of Hayle Mill in Maidstone, Kent.This featured on the baseline register in 1999 as a large paper mill complex of circa1800, which had been vacant for some time and was at risk of increasing dereliction. After a change of ownership, listed building consent was granted to repair the building and convert it to a complex of 42 flats.The work has been completed and some of the flats already sold.
