Chosen field like sports, Arts, Social Work, Civil Service, Literature and education, Public Affairs, S & T, Trade, and Industry etc.
Name of the awardees are announced every year on Republic Day.
Given every year expect 3 times: 1977,1980 and between1993 - 97.
Several Rules Recipient of less Padma awards, they can be awarded a higher degree of award only after five or more years.
Rarely given posthumously.
There ought to be an element of public service in the achievement of person to be selected.
Government servants, those working in PSUs, except doctors and scientist are not eligible for these awards.
Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service (2nd degree honor)
Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a high order (3rd degree honor)
Padma Shri for distinguished service (4th Degree Honor)
Padma Vibhushan 2nd highest civilian award given by Republic of India.

Jnanpith Award: Also known as Gyanpeeth Award (Seat of Knowledge) Instituted in 1961 by Bhartiya Jnanpith (founding the newspaper Times of India) . Given to those Indian citizens who compose literature in one of the 22 languages. Prize: Cash ₹ . 11 lakh rupees, Bronze statue of Goddess Saraswati.
Saraswati Samman Annual award for outstanding prose or poetry literacy works in any of the 22 Indian languages listed in schedule VIII of the Constitution of India. Instituted in 1991 by KK Birla Foundation. Prize: ₹ 10 lakh, citation, and plaque.
Vyas Samman: First awarded in 1991. Awarded annually by KK Birla Foundation. Prize: ₹ 2,50, 000. Literacy work must be in Hindi language and published in past 10 years.
