Train Simulator – SD70ACe Norfolk Southern Heritage Pack

Version 2.0

1 Background

Norfolk Southern Heritage Norfolk Southern has honoured its predecessor railroads during 2012, its 30th anniversary year, by painting 20 new locomotives in commemorative schemes that reflect the heritage of those predecessors.

Since the 1820s, hundreds of railroad companies were built, merged, reorganized, and consolidated into what eventually became Norfolk Southern, itself created from the consolidation of (SR) and Norfolk and Western Railway (NW) in 1982. In 1999, Norfolk Southern expanded the scope of its heritage with its acquisition of a portion of (CR). The heritage locomotives represent most of the railroads that played significant roles in Norfolk Southern’s history. Each paint scheme was modified to fit contemporary locomotives while staying as true as possible to the original designs.

2 Rolling Stock

SD70ACe The SD70ACe is similar to the SD70MAC; however, it has been updated to meet the latest EPA regulations for locomotives. Several other changes were included. The radiator on the locomotive is nearly as wide as the cab, and looks similar to the radiator on the SD80 and SD90 series of locomotives. The nose has been modified, producing a much more angular design than previous. The cables and brake lines have been routed beneath the walkways, allowing for easy access by maintenance workers. The SD70ACe is rated at 4,300 horsepower (3,200 kW). As of 2012, 1229 of this locomotive have been produced. Purchasers include BNSF Railway, CSX Transportation, Ferromex, Kansas City Southern Railway, Montana RailLink, CVG Ferrominera Orinoco , , Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway, BHP Billiton and Norfolk and Southern.
