After a particularly bad round of golf, Robert decided not to go to the nineteenth hole [the clubhouse bar] and started to go straight home. As he was walking to the golf car park to get his Range Rover, a police- man stopped him and asked, "Did you tee off on the seventeenth hole about twenty minutes ago?" "Yes", Robert answered. "Did you happen to slice your ball so that it went over the trees and out of bounds and completely off the golf course?" "Yes, I did. How did you know?" Robert questioned. "Well", said the policeman gravely, " Your golf ball flew out onto the main road and crashed through the windscreen of a BMW. The car driver lost control and crashed into six other cars and started a fire. The fire engine was unable to reach the fire in time and a building burned down. Now, what do you intend to do about it?" Robert thought it over very carefully and responded', I think I'll close my stance a little bit, tighten my grip and lower my right thumb." 3 KOMPETISIE RESULTATE / COMPETITION RESULTS Sat 25 Maart/March Sanlam Kanker Dag/ Cancer Day A Afdeling/Division: Leon Hattingh 35 punte/points B Afdeling/Division: Melvin Tobias - 39 punte/points C Afdeling/ Division: Elias Matthee met 39 punte/points Louis van der Vyfer het die dag gereël. American Thompson, 22, was given a four-stroke penalty while leading the final round of the year's first major. A television viewer spotted Thompson incorrectly replacing a marked ball in the third round, and told officials. The R&A and USGA said players "should not be held to the degree of precision" provided by video technology. The governing bodies want to allow tournament officials more flexibility to apply common sense in certain situations. A joint statement added: "The use of video technology can make it possi- ble to identify things that could not be seen with the naked eye." The changes state: If a breach could not be seen with the naked eye or players were not aware, it will not be deemed a breached of the rules A player's reasonable judgement will be accepted, even if later proved wrong by video evidence Britain's four-time major winner Laura Davies told BBC Radio 5 live: "It's a great idea. It's just a shame it cost Lexi a major championship. My heart goes out to her." Analysis BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter: These changes lessen the influence of video referrals and strengthen the emphasis on player integrity when rules issues arise. If it takes enhanced footage to identify a rules breach, such evidence would not lead to a penalty. This standard has been in place since 2014 with regard to the movement of a ball at rest. The second change, when players use reasonable judgment to determine a specific location in applying the rules, relies on a golfer's integrity. It refers to how a player might take a free or penalty drop or replaces their ball after marking it. This was the instance with Lexi Thompson at last month's ANA Inspiration when the American ended up incur- ring a four-stroke penalty for incorrectly replacing her ball in the third round. (Gina's explanatory notes ... she incurred a 2 stroke penalty for incorrectly placing her ball, and then another 2 stroke penalty for incorrectly fill- ing in her card - this was before she knew that she had incurred a penalty for incorrect placement - Gina). It took video evidence, spotted by a TV viewer the following day, to spot the infraction and the subsequent furore prompted Tuesday's announcement. A broader review of the overall validity of television footage in deciding rules issues has also been set up.Source: http://www.bbc.com/sport/golf/39712185 ( En daar val George Coetzee toe uit die bus verlede naweek by die Shenzhen Ope op die laaste gat met ‘n triple bogey toe hy in die water slaan….en hy was een van die voorlopers op die 18de …...eisssh. The course staff have been carrying out different cultural practices thereby optimizing turf growth and providing reasonably consistent green speeds. The fairways too, have been worked on without any major inconvenience to members this season. The course staff is focusing on other details such as drainage correction on fairways and bunkers and are confident of providing better playing conditions on the course in the coming months. • Handbook Scga-Amateur V4c.Pdf
FROM THE PRESIDENT DEAR COMPETITORS, Welcome to the 118th playing of the SCGA Amateur Champion- ship. Surprisingly, the Coachella Valley, home to 120 golf courses, has never hosted the SCGA Amateur. Yes, it’s appropriate and long overdue. With fairways lined by large Eucalyptus trees and elevated greens protected by strategic bunkers, the Dinah Shore Tournament Course has provided a fair, but challenging test for many championships. Previous winners include Johnny Dawson (1942, 44 & 45), local standout Scott McGihon (2000, 2005 and 2006), Alan Geiberger (1956 and 1959), Beau Hossler (2013, 2014), Tiger Woods, and Patrick Cantlay. Last July at Barona Creek, Rico Hoey scored a record 19 under par 269 besting Dan Erickson (273), Clay Feagler (274), P. J. Samiere (275) and Hide Yoshihara (276). After competing in our championship, many participants have subse-quently enjoyed successful careers on the PGA Tour. My sincere congratulations on qualifying to compete on one of the Coachella Valley’s finest courses. Our Desmond Muirhead designed course opened in 1971 and in 1976 hosted the World Cup, won by Seve Ballesteros and Manuel Pinero. Mission Hills has hosted the AJGA Desert Junior annually since 1982. The first stage of LPGA qualifying is held here in the early fall. And 2017 marked the 35th playing of what is now the ANA Inspiration, the longest running LPGA major. Gorgeous views of the San Jacinto and San Gorgonio mountains and subtle slopes toward the Salton Sea add to the mystique. And there’s more for nature lovers: the sightings and sounds of red tailed hawks, vermillion flycatchers, Costas hummingbirds, and the occasional coyote.

However, in order Decisions on the Rules of Golf help millions of golfers around the world better understand how these detailed Rules are applied and interpreted, the Decisions on the Rules of Golf were introduced. The purpose of the Decisions is to clarify matters that may not be entirely clear from the Rules of Golf. The Decisions are a collection of over 1, interpretations of the Rules of Golf. Every two years, after a thorough review of new questions that are not specifically addressed in the current version, a new book is published. The new book contains some new and some revised Decisions; and actually you will notice that some Decisions have been withdrawn from the previous code. For the version, there were three new Decisions, sixty that were either revised or re-numbered and twenty-four that were withdrawn. The Decisions book is arranged by Rule number. Each section corresponds to one of the thirty-four sections of the Rule Book. At the beginning of each section, the entire contents of the Rule itself are displayed. The layout of most of the Decisions is in a question and answer format; some are just a statement. Question: A player, unable to find his ball, puts another ball into play. He then discovers that his original ball is in the hole.
