As of today, Friday, December 3, the Emergency Room at Germantown Hospital will be closing

and merging with Albert Einstein Hospital. Einstein has added eleven new beds to its ER in

anticipation of this event. We thank the staff of Germantown's ER for its many years of

dedication to the La Salle students and the neighboring community.

Faculty Senate Meeting November 2, 2010

Approval of Minutes The Minutes of the meeting of October 14, 2010 were approved by a vote of 12‐0‐2.

Faculty Senate Election Process Maggie McGuinness presented a proposal to keep the current Senate composition of 21 Senators; seven elected each year: two Professors; two Associate Professors; two Assistant Professors and one At Large but change the election process to ensure representation of faculty from the School of Business and the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. Discussion involved adopting a process that would allow for at least one representative from each of the Schools. Maggie will summarize the recommendations and present changes for consideration at the next meeting.

Mediation and Grievance Policy Discussion Discussion concerned forming an ad hoc working group to evaluate the current Grievance Policy in the Handbook. Suggestions included adding an additional member to the existing Mediation Committee and having this group assume the charge. A candidate was suggested who has membership on the Grievance Committee.

Tenure and Promotion Standards Discussion. The Senate Executive Committee reported that they had met with the Provost to discuss issues related to the Tenure and Promotion procedures. A discussion followed that involved questions about current practices related to the proce‐ dures outlined in the Handbook. The discussion resulted in a recommendation as follows:

By Senate resolution, we encourage the Tenure and Promotion Committee to carefully follow procedures as laid out in the Handbook. This recommendation was approved by a vote of 15‐0‐0

The meeting was adjourned at 1:50 p.m.

Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

La Salle University’s Athletic Department invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, serving as the primary media contact for specifically assigned men’s and/or women’s athletic teams; utilizing and updating social media platforms; producing and designing game notes and virtual publications; proactively and creatively pursing media and P.R. opportunities with traditional and non‐traditional media outlets; assisting in the maintenance of the Athletics Department’s Web site and in the marketing and promotion of La Salle athletics, specifically women’s basketball; compiling and editing sports publications & news releases; completing assigned projects from coaches and staff; and producing and editing video highlights and packages.

A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in communications, journalism or sports management. A minimum of two years of work experience is required, preferably in an athletic communications department at the professional or college level. The candidate must demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with a wide range of La Salle constituents and media and must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. A focus on attention to detail is essential. The candidate must also possess strong problem‐solving skills with the ability to independently seek solutions and devise recommendations. He or she must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Quark XPress, Adobe Photoshop, and video editing.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics

La Salle University invites applications for a tenure‐track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in August 2011. The successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and continued scholarly activity. Duties include teaching a wide variety of undergraduate courses, student advising, curriculum development, and committee service.

Preference will be given to candidates in Applied Mathematics or Statistics; however applications from all areas of mathematics are welcome. A Ph.D. in mathematics or statistics by the commencement of the appointment is required.

All information for the General, Academic, Minutes, or Athletic sections— with or without graphics and photos—must be submitted electronically either: • via the “Submit an item” form in the Media and Publications channel on the News and Media tab of the portal, • via e‐mail to the [email protected]. (The article title must be included in the subject line of the e‐mail), or • via CD sent to Campus News, Box 187.

Submissions can be sent with graphics and photos laid out with the text or sent with the text and graphics separately. Please submit flyers and circulars as attachments in Microsoft ®Word or as PDF files. Please submit photos as JPEG files.

Letterhead or logos with submissions must conform to the approved standards explained and illustrated in the Brand Book published and distributed by University Communications.

All photos and graphics (clip art, logos other than La Salle’s) must have their owners’ permission to be reproduced. If you submit them with your information, you are responsible for gaining this permission.
