Sarah will certainly proud of. be more visible “on the floor” which I’m sure will be enjoyed by her and welcomed by all.

Hannah Vernam (unflappable front Receptionist) will be taking on new responsibilities as Administration Manager. She’ll still be out the front, just a room further back from her usual seat. Hannah also holds the highest level of rapport with everyone she deals with. Hannah will slide into her new role in the weeks ahead, mastering our somewhat un-user- friendly payroll system will no doubt be a highlight for Hannah during this time. Please give her your support.

This brings me to the core of this months article; the new Receptionist.

At the time of writing a candidate has not yet been confirmed, but the process has brought something to light. We decided to shorten our reception hours to make them “school friendly” (9am to 3pm), the idea being we might get more applicants of a higher quality.

Well, it WORKED with 130 applications being received in just under two weeks! Trying to shortlist down to seven for interview was extremely difficult. Trying to choose the “winner” out of those seven was harder still. Clearly there are a lot of people out there who wish to balance work and family this was evident in many of the cover letters received.

God’s call to follow Him in the service of the poor. She came to London in 1851 at the request of Cardinal Wiseman to help the destitute.

In Victorian England no work often meant starvation or the dreaded workhouse. Countless numbers of poor, young and old lived on the streets.

After many difficulties and sufferings Victoire gathered together a group of women who later became the first Sisters of Nazareth. Victoire took the name, Mother St Basil as was the custom at that time.

The first house in London was soon filled with the young and the old. The Sisters depended on the goodwill of the people to help them care for their On Sunday 14 May Geraldton City Band performed residents. There was no government help. Victoire had a great love for children and urged her Sisters, ‘See Jesus in each child no matter how difficult’. An atmosphere of loving care helped the children overcome the trauma of living on the streets.

The Sisters worked hard but were strengthened by prayer and trust in Divine Providence, which never failed them. ‘Go to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Tell him all your worries’ Victoire.

‘From the outset all those in need were accepted regardless of race, religion or colour’.

‘See Our Lady and St Joseph in the dear old people’ Mother St Basil’.

Aware of the hard lives of the Sisters and the need for rest, Victoire opened a house near the seaside in Southend where the Sister and sick children could recover.

Victoire died in 1871 aged 51 worn out by her labours. She left a flourishing Congregation which endeavours to live the vision that she had and carry it into the future. We strive to create in our lives and in those we meet.
