Burglaries and Break-ins in your area during August 2020

Taken from the police public website here are the numbers of reported unlawful entry with intent to burglary, break and enter by police area during August 2020. There were 104 burglaries during August 2020 (year so far in brackets) Please note that police named areas do not exactly match Neighbourhood Support Group areas. If your area is not mentioned, it is not available from the police: members can view these police statistics on line.

Burglary and Theft Prevention Advice

Put yourself in a burglar’s shoes. If you think like them, you can identify security risks around your home.

The following tips can minimise these opportunities:

• Lock your doors and windows including your sheds and garages. • Photograph / record make, model and serial numbers of valuables. • Consider engraving your tools and bicycles with your driver’s license number. • Consider installing sensor lights. • Store ladders away. • Keep hedges and plants well trimmed - do not give burglars a place to hide. • Check and maintain damaged fencing and locks. • Note down and report car registrations and descriptions of suspicious v ehicles or persons. Burglars often scope out a place.

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of Neighbourhood Support Hamilton Inc. was held at the Settlement Centre on Wednesday 23 September.

Two local leaders and parliamentary candidates, Tim Macindoe (National Party) and Jamie Strange (Labour Party), and NZ Police Waikato Area Commander, Andrea McBeth was among those who attended.

The office-bearers elected are: Gurbir Singh- Chairperson; Murray Rickerby- Treasurer and Dr Aamir Mukhtar- Secretary.

John Evered, Suman Kapoor and Shanti Ralm continue to volunteer their time serving on the managing committee.

Cr. Margaret Forsyth and Sr. Constable Craig Berquist represent the Hamilton City Council and NZ Police respectively on the managing committee. Wendy Booth also continues in her current role of Field Officer.
