It is an excellent way for a researcher to contact others who may be working on the same families, but the popu larity of this department has increased to the extent that it has become necessary to place some restrictions on the number of cards we can photocopy and send to sub scribers. Guidelines for submitting cards and for requesting a search are printed on the in side of the back blue cover; none of this information has been changed. Your legal size, self-addressed, stamped envelope will be returned to you along with photocopies of any cards in the file which might be of help to you. Five cards will fit on one photocopied page; data, if any, on the back of the card will be copied on the back of the page. Our Director of Surname Files will send two of these pages (10 cards, if we have that many) in your SASE. This service is free of charge to our sub scribers who send a request and SASE. A charge of fifty cents ($.50) per page for more than two pages is needed to defray the cost of copying and return postage. As a rule, the two pages will hold all the cards which would pertain to a given family, but cards on the most common American names may number in the hundreds ...for in stance, there are approximately two hundred cards on Brown. For this reason, your request should give at least one date and one location, if we are to help you. Speaking of surname help, Jennifer A. Perkins publishes booklets on the PERKINS fami ly. She offers records, queries and information about current Perkins events all over the country. Write to Mrs. Perkins at 5803 N. Ash, Spokane, WA 99205-6807 for details. More helpful information comes from Mary Ruth Devault of Gordon Browning Museum Gen ealogical Library in McKenzie, TN. In our Volume 38 (1991) we had noted that Carroll County had suffered a courthouse fire in 1931. Mrs. Devault says that listing is misleading. "The fire ...was in only one room, the tax office; all other records are complete." This fine library is one of the best sources for research in Carroll and surrounding counties. The Mississippi Genealogical Society and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History are co-sponsoring a very worthwhile seminar in Jackson on 23 Jan 1993 with Helen F.M. Leary as speaker. Mrs. Leary is nationally recognized for her expertise. Contact the Society at P.O. Box 5301, Jackson, MS 39296-5301 for further information. The Vicksburg Genealogical Society Spring Seminar will feature John Philip Colletta, Ph.D. as speaker on 13 Mar 1993. Write the society at P.O. Box 1161, Vicksburg, MS 39181-1161 and include SASE for a reply. Ms. Billie R. McNamara, P.O. Box 61792, Virginia Beach, VA 23466-1792, offers this helpful information: (1) "I just learned that Jefferson County has recovered its missing Court Minute Book, from circa 1810. It has been returned to the Clerk's of fice in Dandridge"; (2) "In reviewing the Civil War Pension File of Spencer ACUFF of Jefferson County, Tennessee, I found a document that did not belong in the file .•.an Affidavit in support of the application of Thomas GREGORY of James County, Tennessee. The Affidavit was made by John PRIDDY, of Thatcher's Landing, James County, on April 25, 1885." Ruloff De Kype [5] was born in 1510 in Alencon, Bretagne, France. General Notes: Ruloff De Kype was a warm adherent of the Guises, and took a prominent part in the Civil War between the Catholics and the Protestants. On the triumph of the Protestants, which occurred soon after the general massacre of the inhabitants of Vassey in Champagne, in 1562, his Chateau was burned and he fled from his home at Alancon in Bretagne to Holland with his three sons, where they lived for several years under an assumed name. In 1569, with his son Henri, he returned to France, joined the army of the Duke of Anjou, and on the 13th of March 1569 fell in the battle fought on the banks of La Charante, near Jarnac. By the care of his son, Jean Baptiste, who was a priest, he was buried in a small Church near Jarnac. The Church and grave marker were destroyed during the French Revolution. The Kip arms are represented on page before the title page. Sources: History of The Kip Family In America, by Frederic E.

I hope you enjoy your visit and the opportunity to witness the building’s beauty and history. Upon its original completion, this Capitol was considered one of the most magnificent public buildings in the country. Interestingly, the facility has served as the seat of Tennessee State Government since that time and remains a source of pride for our citizens today. Visitors from around the world come to Nashville to tour the grounds and legislative chambers. Utilized since 1853, our Senate Chamber’s significance exceeds the beauty of the walls surrounding it. The chamber, as a forum for debate and discussion, epitomizes our democracy; speeches delivered here have resonated well beyond the upstairs gallery ushering change to the entire country.

  • FC Series of Archives
ARUNDEL CASTLE ARCHIVES Vol IV A CATALOGUE Edited by Francis W Steer Preface Unlike its predecessors, this fourth volume of the catalogue of the archives at Arundel Castle will have to remain in manuscript until either printing costs are reduced or a new and economical process of reproduction is invented. This situation is a matter for regret on two counts as it spoils a series of printed books which have been of assistance to scholars all over the world and it is going to make the definitive edition of the catalogue of this vast collection of archives more difficult for someone to compile in the future. This volume, so far as manuscript permits, follows the style of the other three. It contains (pp1-65) a vast accumulation of records (mainly drafts although some are of special interest and importance) which Messrs Few & Co. (solicitors to the Dukes of Norfolk since 1815) must have transferred to Norfolk House, St James‟s Square, London, over 90 years ago. The documents are in excess of 9,200 and demonstrate, in particular, the litigious character of Bernard Edward, 12th Duke of Norfolk (1765-1842) and the immense amount of work which accrued to his solicitors; they also show the policy with regard to the dispersal and/or consolidation of estates – sometimes to pay off enormous mortgages and at other times to simplify that difficult administration of what was a huge and scattered estate extending into several counties. The catalogue (1965) of the Arundel documents deposited at Sheffield City Library should not be forgotten by students concerned with properties in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
