Phil Taylor was a rock drummer who looked and acted the part. https://www.infotextmanuscripts.org/tln/Toussaint%20And%20Taylor%20Pass%20On-.html 1/4 8/21/2017 Toussaint And Taylor Pass On Toussaint was born in Louisiana on January 14, 1938, and in his youth recorded with among others the legendary Fats Domino (who although still around appears to have retired). Toussaint recorded on his own account – including more than a dozen albums – but was better known as a songwriter. If you are of a certain vintage you may be familiar with Working In The Coal Mine, recorded initially by Lee Dorsey; the unashamedly commercial Here Come The Girls, which charted twice in the UK after it was used by a major pharmaceutical company in its TV advertisements; and arguably his biggest hit, Southern Nights, a US chart topper for Glen Campbell, although originally Toussaint recorded it himself. Allen Toussaint performing in Stockholm in 2009 Allen Toussaint died with his boots on; he was on tour in Spain when he succumbed to a heart attack aged 77. At the time of writing his ofcial website has not been updated with the news of his death, although it will surely continue to be maintained. He was married and divorced twice, and is survived by a son and daughter. Yesterday, a previously unreleased Toussaint song – Isn’t Life Great? – was revealed by National Public Radio. https://www.infotextmanuscripts.org/tln/Toussaint%20And%20Taylor%20Pass%20On-.html 2/4 8/21/2017 Toussaint And Taylor Pass On At the other end of the spectrum (and the Universe) was Phil Taylor, or Philthy Animal Taylor as he was playfully styled. Born at Chestereld on September 21, 1954, Taylor joined Motörhead shortly after its formation. Bass player and front man Lemmy Kilmister had previously been with Hawkwind, (its his voice you hear on the classic Silver Machine). On the departure of drummer Lucas Fox, the classic line-up was formed with Fast Eddie Clarke on lead guitar. Although Phil Taylor played with other bands, it is his two stints with Motörhead, 1975-84 and 1987-92, for which he will be remembered. Most fans would agree that the band produced their best work during these times; they were, as the late Tommy Vance used to say, over the top. Phil Taylor was a bachelor, but was married to the music. He died November 11 having been ill for some time, probably due in no small measure to his legendary intake of alcohol. You will nd plenty of footage of him and the band on YouTube, and if you don’t mind strong language, there is an extended interview with them in the documentary Motörhead: The Guts And The Glory. 3 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 8 3 0 SHARES a d y n f h k m ABOUT THE AUTHOR Alexander Baron https://www.infotextmanuscripts.org/tln/Toussaint%20And%20Taylor%20Pass%20On-.html 3/4 8/21/2017 Toussaint And Taylor Pass On 1 Comment The Latest News 1 Alexander Baron Recommend 2 ⤤ Share Sort by Best Join the discussion… Tim Sandle • 2 years ago I enjoyed Toussaint's collaboration with Elvis Costello, about Hurricane Katrina 'The River in Reverse'. △ ▽ • Reply • Share › ALSO ON THE LATEST NEWS Genetically Modified Mosquitoes To Be Bacteria Powered Solar Cell Makes Clean Tested in Florida Energy 3 comments • a year ago• 1 comment • a year ago• spencer — Guarantee you that's not the only Dmitri Kara — Big up for renewable energy thing they were designed.Bill gates wants to sources! reduce the global population.Everyone in the … The World’s Most Addictive Substances Common Sense On Rape From India Revealed 1 comment • a year ago• 1 comment • a year ago• Paul Johnson — Suddenly, I have hope for India Alexander Baron — I find it difficult to believe again. cocaine is less addictive than alcohol. ✉ Subscribe d Add Disqus to your siteAdd DisqusAdd Privacy Copyright text 2017 by The Latest News.

  • We Are Motörhead and We Play Rock’N’Roll
‘We are Motörhead and we play rock’n’roll .......’

Echo: A Music-Centered Journal Volume 6 Issue 2 (Fall 2004) Full article with images, video and audio content available at http://www.echo.ucla.edu/volume6-issue2/waksman/waksman1.html Steve Waksman1 Smith College 1. Heavy metal and punk rock are arguably the two popular music genres that most represent the paths followed by rock music after 1970. Often considered in opposition to one another, metal and punk have crossed into one another as often as they have been starkly differentiated. In the 1980s, exchange between the two genres occurred with such consistency that a “crossover” subgenre emerged that was built upon stylistic hybridization. Although metal/punk crossover is typically considered a distinctly 1980s phenomenon, bands that fused elements of the two genres were, if not plentiful, certainly in evidence in the preceding decade. Even early protopunk bands such as the New York Dolls or the Stooges can be considered to have significantly mixed generic elements in both music and the broader meanings that circulated around them, and such bands have often been accorded a place of prominence in written accounts of both metal and punk. By the mid-1970s, the period widely recognized as the moment of punk’s preeminence, a number of bands straddled the metal/punk divide even as punk was becoming defined as a more discretely bounded—and at times ideologically stringent—phenomenon. Foremost among these was the British band Motörhead, led by a refugee from the psychedelic era whose given name of Ian Kilmister had been supplanted by the single- word moniker Lemmy. 2.
