Derek King enters his fifth season as a coach of the Rockford IceHogs in 2020-21 and second as the team's Head Coach. He was named Interim Head Coach on November 6, 2018 after was promoted to the Chicago Blackhawks of the after serving as an assistant coach since 2016. A native of Hamilton, Ont., King has helped coach the Marlies (AHL) to one Western Conference Championship and three divisional titles.

Prior to his coaching debut with the IceHogs in 2016-17, King, served as the Assistant Coach of the of the (OHL). Prior to his time in the OHL, King was an assistant and associate coach of the from 2009-15. The Toronto Marlies captured the Western Conference Championship in 2012 and won the North Division in 2012, 2013, and 2014. The Marlies collected a combined record of 243-166-26-30 under King’s tutelage.

He began his coaching career as a player-assistant coach with the , serving in that role in both the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. He collected 22 goals and 49 assists in 136 games with the Griffins.

King was drafted #13 overall by the Islanders in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, and went on to play 14 seasons in the NHL, 11 of those with the team that originally drafted him. The left wing notched 261 goals and 351 assists for 612 points in 830 NHL games. He also accrued 417 PIM. Along with the Islanders (1986-97), King’s NHL career includes stops with the (1996-97), (1997-00), and St. Louis Blues (1999-00). During his final stop with the Blues, he played under former Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach .

Anders Sorensen - Assistant Coach

Sörensen is in his seventh season as development coach for the Chicago Blackhawks and was named to the Assistant Coach position on January 4, 2019, replacing who was named an assistant coach with the Blackhawks the same day. Prior to working with the Blackhawks, the Södertälje, Sweden, native spent the 2014-15 season as head coach of the Chicago Mission U16 club and the 2010-11 season as head coach of the Chicago Mission U18 team.

Career Notes: 2018-20: Franson returns to the IceHogs after spending the past two seasons with Omsk Avangard in the KHL totaling 43 points (eight goals, 35 assists) over 98 games and 24 points (five goals, 18 assists) in 25 KHL postseason contests and led all KHL defensemen with 18 postseason points and 14 assists in 2019.

2017-18: With the IceHogs in 2017-18, the Sicamous, , native registered 28 points (nine goals, 19 assists) and placed second among team defenseman with 15 power-play points (six goals, nine assists) in 37 games, earning him team Defenseman of the Year award honors. During the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs, Franson helped the IceHogs reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time in team history, picking up 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 13 games and finished second among AHL defensemen in postseason points and power-play points (four goals, five assists) behind teammate (14 points overall, 11 power-play points).

The 6-foot-5, 224-pound blueliner was originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the third round (79th overall) of the 2005 NHL Draft. He made his professional debut with the during the 2007-08 campaign and was named to the 2007-08 AHL All-Rookie Team and 2008-09 AHL All-Star Game. Before joining the IceHogs, the Regina, Saskatchewan, native returned to the AHL a veteran of 402 contests including two games with earlier this year. A long-time member of the (2009-18), Mitchell served as the Bears’ team captain for three seasons (2015-18), alternate captain for two seasons (2013-15) and totaled 110 points (53 goals, 57 assists) in 400 games with the club. Earlier this season, Mitchell had 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in 40 games with the of the ECHL. Last season, he skated for Zvolen KHm in Slovakia adding 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 28 games. Selected in the sixth round (175th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the , the 5-foot-11, 196-pound forward appeared in one game with the Capitals during the 2016-17 season.

2017-19: During the 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns, the Larkspur, Col., native gained national attention with an outstanding 1.94 GAA and .944 save percentage as a sophomore, earning a 27-8-1 record and leading the Fighting Irish to Big 10 championship and was named Tournament MVP, to the Big 10 All-Tournament Team, NCAA First All-American Team, Big 10 Player of the Year and received the Mike Richter Award as the NCAA’s top collegiate and became a Hobey Baker Finalist for the top overall player in the NCAA. Morris continued his strong play into his junior year and helped capture a second Big 10 title with a 19-13-3 standing, 2.19 GAA and .930 save percentage and finished as a Mike Richter Award semifinalist, team MVP and Hobey Baker Fan Vote Nominee.
