Brook Debaters took to the road the weekend of December 15th to head over to in Spring where they continued amassing points toward their individual state goals that will culminate in the annual TFA State Tournament in March. Lincoln Douglas Debate competitors Christa Westheimer and Maryam Babar both achieved quarter-finalist status at the meet while their teammates, Sarvesh Subramanian, Kent Pham and Prateesh Vijayakumar competed in a new event, Worlds Debate, besting all other teams and coming out 1st place overall!

Not to be outdone in debate events, members also competed in more traditional speaking events, including Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking and Impromptu. Brook Debaters cut their holiday break a few days short when they showed up to J. Frank on January 4th and 5th to compete at the first debate tournament of the new year. Coming out with the best finish of the team for the weekend was Benjamin Eappen who placed as the top speaker overall in LD Debate as well as placing 3rd in the event overall! Fellow debaters Kent Pham and the team of Christa Westheimer and Fizza Dhanani both made it to the quarter finals round in LD Debate and PF Debate respectively. Kent, already qualified for state in LD Debate, adds to his total, while the girls picked up two additional points, putting them in easy striking distance of their qualification for the year.

Picking up his second qualification of the season was Adarsh Suresh who placed 7th overall in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking. Also picking up two points in this same event was Christa Westheimer, putting her close to a second state goal that she is still working toward.
