Installation of LED based Solar Street Lights, under CSR activity of NHPC in Faridabad Constituency of . NHPC has consistently played the role of Responsible Corporate Citizen and has demonstrated its deep commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility practices by conducting its business in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner. Going beyond the business boundaries, the proactive approach work towards the sustainability of the planet in the face of Global environmental degradation and climate change.

As a part of its CSR initiative under reference of the public Representatives, NHPC commissioned solar street lighting projects at various places in the country. Our CSR programmes proactively engage local communities to create a conscious, conducive spirit for furthering sustainability.

There are 02 blocks consisting of 66 villages at of Haryana. Each village has around 100 to 450 families except a few close to the Faridabad or Ballabhgarh City with around 5000 families. Electric connection has reached their door step but hardly they got the facility to enjoy the comfort of Street lights. Each of the villages is faced with major problem being electricity, water contamination and accessibility due to bad roads as agriculture, animal husbandry is the main source of income of villagers. Understanding the concern of these villages located in interior areas and recommendation of Local Member of Parliament and Minister of State, Govt. of India Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar, NHPC took the initiative to light up the villages through environment friendly solar lights. 450 solar lights were installed by NHPC across these 10 villages, in a way addressing decade old problem of villagers. NHPC commitment does not end with the installation of the Solar lights but continue to fund the maintenance for the next 5 years till the villagers create a mechanism to sustain the Project.

Statistics of the Project at a Glance

Out of the total Faridabad population for 2011 census, 79.51 percent lives in urban regions of district. In total 1,438,855 people lives in urban areas of which males are 768,007 and females are 670,848.. Average literacy rate in Faridabad district as per census 2011 is 83.82 % of which males and females are 89.59 % and 77.25 % literates respectively. In actual number 1,045,717 people are literate

in urban region of which males and females are 595,223 and 450,494 respectively. Almost 37% increase in population recorded between 2001 and 2011census.

Project Title : Supply, Installation & Commissioning with 05 Years of warranty & maintenance of LED based Street Lights in Faridabad Constituency of Haryana.

Type of Project : Installation of 450 Nos. of 12W Solar Street Lights, under the CSR activity of NHPC.

Project Proponents : M/s Energy Efficiency Services Limited, Noida.

Project Executioner : M/s Photonics Watertech P. Ltd.

Location of Systems : Haryana

Total Expenditure : 86,20,052/-(In words Eighty Six Lakhs Twenty Thousand Fifty Two Only).

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT:

1. Providing the Solar Street lighting system free of Cost to the local population where availability of electricity from State Electricity Board is on a lower side.

2. To provide pollution free environment.

3. As the sunlight is the free source of energy, the noiseless conversion property of solar modules makes it even more energy efficient.

4. Low maintenance of SSLS.

5. To provide the learning environment for the school going children in night during load shedding period.

6. To spread the awareness among the beneficiaries about the use of clean and energy efficient equipment.

7. To increase the safety of the local inhabitants during night time.

CURRENT STATUS

The Supply, Distribution, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of 450 Nos. of LED 12W Solar Street Lighting System (SSLS) has been done successfully and all systems are running successfully at the designated areas.

 Khusiram (Jasana Village, Faridabad): “I am a daily wage worker and am very thankful to NHPC and EESL’s initiative to light up our locality using solar power. As our locality is crippled by high load shedding therefore the need of alternative source of light becomes more evident to maintain the quality”.

 Rajkishor Rai (Tilpat, Faridabad):“Living in a remote area like Tilpat (Faridabad) and with limited sources of income, it becomes difficult to make ends meet. With huge power cut I am unable to afford either Diesel generator or inverter. I am thankful to EESL and NHPC to lighting up my area. These initiatives have provided us the opportunity to forecast about the better future of my family and the overall upliftment of the society”.

 Deena Nath (Mehmoodpur, Faridabad): Villages are plagued majorly by insufficient electricity connections, which lead to safety concerns in the respective hamlets and uncertain future to their siblings. The solar lighting installations in our area has enlightened the future of our village.

Verification by NHPC CSR Team

 Village Lalpur:- The team verified 20 Solar light installations and found them working. It was told by a villager that if any problem in these lights come, the toll free numbers (found written on every unit) were used by the villagers and Action was taken very promptly. It was evident from the verifications at villages that a sense of ownership and vision of development has been developed and the project is sustainable. The Local Public and Panchayat is taking interest in maintaining the infrastructure of the village.
