Cannes Film Festival Official Partner since 2013, Angénieux strengthens its presence year after year. 2016 marks the 4th edition of the “Pierre Angénieux Excellens in Cinematography” honoring Peter Suschitzky ASC on May 20th. The tribute ceremony was followed this year by a meeting with Peter Suschitzky held the following day. In addition, many movies where Angénieux zoom lenses were utilized have been screened in Cannes during the past two weeks.

Tribute to Peter Suschitzky

Since 2013, Thales Angénieux makes a tribute every year to a prominent international director of photography. For more than 80 years, with their demanding aesthetics and techniques, Directors of Photography have secured the success of Angénieux zoom lenses. In honor, Angénieux turns the spotlight to these image professionals without whom cinema would not exist. Following (AFC, ASC) in 2013, (HSC, ASC) in 2014 and Roger A. Deakins (BSC, ASC) in 2015, Angénieux paid tribute to the English Director of Photography Peter Suschitzky (ASC) in 2016.

This tribute ceremony was an occasion for prestigious artists involved at one moment of their career in Peter Suschitzky’s work, to come and express their deep admiration for this successful cinematographer : Matteo Garone (Director, Tale of Tales), Alba Rohrwacher (Actrice,Tale of Tales), Juliette Binoche (Actress, Cosmopolis), Valeria Golino (Actress – Ludwig Van B. and Member of Feature Film Jury at 2016) and Viggo Mortensen (Actor–, , ).

Director (who was not in Cannes this year) also paid tribute to Peter Suschitzky through a video that was screened in Bunuel theater on May 20. Actor Viggo Mortensen read a letter from director with whom Peter Suschitzky worked on eleven of his movies. On the Bunuel theater stage, Thierry Frémaux ( Délégué Général of Cannes Film Festival), Pierre Andurand (President of Thales Angénieux), Raphaël Keller ( Director of Innovation, Video and Technical Industries at CNC) and Pierre-William Glenn ( President of CST, who represented the AFC), paid homage to Peter Suschitzky’s career.

As the award recipient of this 4th “Pierre Angénieux Excellens in Cinematography” Peter Suschitzky was presented with an Optimo 28-76 by Pierre Andurand which was specially engraved with the cinematographer’s name.

Meeting with Peter Suschitzky ASC In conjunction with the 2016 Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography award, Angénieux sponsored a meeting with Peter Suschitzky on Saturday, May 21st at the Radisson Blu Hotel. The meeting was moderated by Benjamin B, Senior European Correspondent for American Cinematographer magazine, author of the filmbook blog, and consultant member of the AFC. The screening of excerpts from Peter’s films was an opportunity for a discussion about cinema and cinematography with questions and comments from the audience.
