New Distribution Territory: Sep & Oct, 2014 Lots has happened since our last distribution expansion round-up for August.

Deschutes entered Mich in Oct and opens Northern Va and DC markets with pair of Premium (Reyes) operations this week. Those entries mark 5 new states (plus D.C) entered in 2014 for the Oreg-based co. Deschutes has been perhaps most active of larger craft cos expanding its distribution this yr. Boulevard Brewing ramped up mkt expansions in last coupla mos, adding SC and Fla in Oct and northern NJ and Philly, PA in Sep. SweetWater entered OH and MS, all while news broke that co sold stake to private equity firm, TSG (same firm that has stake in Pabst). Ninkasi entered Ariz, its 8th state, with Golden Eagle. Ballast Point re-entered Colo with Elite Brands and switched distribs in NC from Freedom Bev to Mims Dist. Ballast may add Wisconsin before the end of the yr too, coo Earl Kight recently told CBN. Southern Wine & Spirits in Nev continues to expand its craft portfolio, adding PA’s Victory Brewing in Sep, and Calif’s Pizza Port Brewing in Oct. And Schlafly entered Chicagoland.

In Sep Yuengling officially entered Ct. 21st Amendment Brewing added ME and RI, its first new states this yr. Great Divide entered Ia with Johnson Brothers. Smuttynose entered Tex with Ben E Keith. Highland entered Oh and Ky with Heidelberg, Kentucky Eagle and River City Dist.

November Preview: Oskar Blues enters Mo with Major Brands. Smuttynose is entering Ariz with new Arizona Beer and Cider Co (new biz from Two Brothers Brewing owners, no longer affiliated Cavalier’s George Fisher). NOLA Brewing enters Fla with Brown Dist.
