This competition has come a long way since it first started in 1952, and it hasn’t lost an ounce of its unique character in those 67 years. The people who contribute and compete in the Guinness Wexford Singing and Singing Pubs competition have managed to nurture the event through time. They have also worked hard to ensure the original competitiveness and atmosphere still exists today. People travel from all over the world to soak up the atmosphere and indulge in the ever expanding talent that Wexford has to offer. Apart from the fact that this is an Over 18s Event, there are no written rules beyond an appropriate time period. We invite you to visit some, or all, of the pubs and hotels taking part to see if you agree with the adjudicator’s decision. The main sections in the competition are Singing, Swinging, Variety and Traditional Style. Why not decide for yourself when you attend a show what type of house you are in. Crowd participation is a very important element and whether you are in your local pub or visiting for the Festival, you can be as much a part of it as the singers and the musicians. I am delighted to welcome you to one of the highlights on the local and national entertainment calendar, the 67th Wexford Fringe Festival. Offering an eclectic mix of over 300 events across 17 days, the 2019 Wexford Fringe Festival delivers a programme of events which both reflects and enhances the town’s global reputation as a kaleidoscopic hub of cultural activity. Once the spectacular fireworks display catapults the Wexford Fringe Festival into life, audiences of all ages will be treated to cabaret, comedy, dance, film, theatre, puppetry, music and the visual arts from Friday October 18th to Sunday November 3rd 2019. Wexford Chamber is delighted to be involved in a festival, which has not only gone from strength to strength in terms of entertaining the masses, but through its continued growth and innovation, the Wexford Fringe Festival has become a tourist attraction in its own right and continues to make a significant contribution to the local economy. In what is generally considered to be an off-peak period in other parts of the country, the Wexford Fringe Festival is also warmly welcomed by retailers, as it provides a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between Summer and Christmas trade. Well known Wexford Writer and Historian Nicholas Furlong and Wexford County Council remind us of our rich heritage and hopes to prompt us into reading further about the history of our beautiful town.

SELSKAR ABBEY THE REDMOND MONUMENT This is one of the oldest sites of worship in Wexford. The Wexford Festival Opera Tours have been part of the Opera Festival Fringe since 1951. Originally organised by Dr George Hadden and Nicholas Furlong, the tours take visitors to sites of historical, social or cultural interest throughout County Wexford. The tours have been organised by Bernard Browne on behalf of Wexford Historical Society for a number of years. To mark the 850th anniversary of the Normans in Ireland, several tours will visit sites associated with the Normans. The tours are open to everyone and are free of charge. The tours leave the Talbot Hotel car park at 10:30 am sharp and are scheduled to return to Wexford at 1:00pm, in time to enjoy the afternoon Festival events. If you don’t have a car, don’t worry. People with cars make room for those without; an opportunity to explore Co. Wexford’s ‘Hidden Gems’ and make new friends.
