Large fire consumes workshop shed at Beachlands quarry
Five fire trucks and a water tanker from Papakura were called to a workshop fire at Beachlands’ quarry on 1 September. Beachlands Volunteer Fire Brigade chief fire officer Shane Rutherford says the workshop was well ablaze when the brigade arrived. “The brigade quickly found a water supply and protected the office building next door. We were then able to concentrate on extinguishing the workshop structure fire.” Shane says it took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. The brigade was on site for about four hours. The cause of the fire is still being inves- tigated. Beachlands Volunteer Fire Brigade would like to thank Domino’s Pizza Beachlands and Maraetai for supplying pizza to the hungry fire fighters.
