'A KISS at MIDNIGHT' CAST BIOS FAITH FORD (Susan Flowers) ‘A KISS AT MIDNIGHT’ CAST BIOS FAITH FORD (Susan Flowers) – Faith Ford has received five Emmy ® nominations and two consecutive Golden Globe nominations for her 10-year portrayal of reporter Corky Sherwood on “Murphy Brown.” Most recently, Ford co-starred opposite Fred Goss and Jerry O’Connell in the ABC comedy series “Carpoolers.” Prior to that she starred in the comedy series “Hope & Faith” with Kelly Ripa for three seasons and co-starred opposite Vin Diesel in “The Pacifier.” Ford’s television credits include the ABC Family Channel feature “Moms On Strike” starring for two seasons as ‘Shelly Kilmartin,’ a probation officer who is the object of Norm Macdonald’s affection on the sitcom “Norm.” Between “Murphy Brown” and “Norm,” Ford headlined her own series, “Maggie Winters,” for CBS. In addition to her acting career, Ford made her writing debut in 2004 with, Cooking With Faith , co-written with Melissa Clark. This Southern cookbook draws on Ford’s childhood in Louisiana where she learned how to cook down-home food at the knees of her grandmother and mother. Ford was raised in the quiet community of Pineville, LA. In high school, she acted in plays, and in her senior year she was a finalist in Teen Magazine ’s annual model search. • The Last of Sheila a Whodunit? No Question
NOIR…OR NOT? Rosemarie Keenan s The Last of Sheila a whodunit? No question. A show business satire? You bet. A dark comedy? Unquestionably. But is it noir? Your captain says yes. In order to make the case, though, we’re going to Ihave to take a close look at the film. Quite close. Unmask-the-killer close. So if you haven’t seen the movie, you may want to head ashore before the gangway is raised. A weekend in the country, the bees in their hives, The shallow worldly figures, the frivolous lives. — “A Weekend in the Country” from A Little Night Music Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim The 1973 film, directed by Herbert Ross from a script by Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins, collects a half-dozen Holly- wood friends for a week-long Mediterranean cruise aboard the Sheila, the yacht of imperi- ous producer Clinton Green (James Coburn). The industry insiders are gorgeous actress Alice (Raquel Welch); her loutish manager/ husband Anthony (Ian McShane); Philip (James Mason), a once-esteemed director now helming TV commercials; struggling screenwriter Tom (Richard Benjamin); his wealthy wife Lee (Joan Hackett); and brassy agent Christine (Dyan Cannon). Our unsuspecting passengers are in for more than just a vacation. Clinton has planned the trip to commemorate the one-year anniver- sary of the hit-and-run death of his wife Sheila, killed the night of a party attended by several of the invitees. The driver was never iden- tified. The pre-credit sequence, in which Sheila (played by Hammer Films actress Yvonne Romain) runs along the dark streets of Bel Air doesn’t reveal much except that caftans worn without bras were acceptable hostess attire in the early seventies.

A Show of One's Own: The History of Television and the Single Girl in America from 1960. by Erin Kimberly Brown A thesis presented to the University of Waterloo in fulfillment of the thesis requirement for the degree of Master of Arts in History Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, 2015 © Erin Kimberly Brown 2015 Author's Declaration I hereby declare that I am the sole author of this thesis. This is a true copy of the thesis, including any final revisions, as accepted by my examiners. I understand that my thesis may be made electronically available to the public. ii Abstract This thesis analyzes the image of the single girl in American history from 1960. The changes made to her lifestyle through technology, politics, education and the workforce are discussed, as is the impact made by the second-wave feminist movement. The evolution seen is traced in detail through five pivotal television series (That Girl, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Murphy Brown, Ally McBeal and Sex and the City) that displayed to millions of viewers across the nation how unmarried women were building their lives and the challenges that they experienced. These programs were an important part of their female audience's life, highlighting what was possible to achieve, yet they were not always greeted with the highest regard. Judgment of the single women's lifestyle was seen from writers and politicians who commented on their unmarried status, their sexuality and pregnancies outside of marriage. Even television networks and producers would, at times, be unconvinced of the single female's choices.
