Introduction

he was so long associated. With the present work it has been the fortune of the parish church to be twice re-erected within half-a- century. . . . A description of Toothless Granny, A Cut & Painted Silhouette has “The use of colour on this silhouette suggests it may have been cut by William Henry Dyer Beaumont. Not much is known about his life: he was actively cutting silhouettes during the 1830s and 1840s and has traditionally been associated with Cheltenham. The 1851 census reveals that William Beaumont, a 46 year old artist born in Cambridge,

The death of Thomas Carr, aged 52, was registered 1854/Q3 Bath. From the Bath Chronicle of Thu 7 Sep 1854 p3: Aug. 30, at Twerton, near Bath, Mr. Thomas Carr, cloth manufacturer. In him the poor have lost a friend, the schools a liberal benefactor, and his workpeople a kind and feeling master. All will mourn him deeply.
