SEASONPREVIEW On the hunt for a conference title, the successful 2018 campaign. The Highlanders return MacMurray College football team was picked 15 total starters – eight on offense and seven on to finish first in the Upper Midwest Athletic defense, providing Douglas, in his eighth season, Conference preseason poll. Losing running back Chazz Middlebrook to graduation, Marquez Ellison is slated to slide into the prime back position. Ellison scored 12 touchdowns as a junior in 2017. Sophomore Chilo Dore’ will serve as another asset on the potent offense.

Led by senior tackle Anthony Fowler, the offensive line has some key positions to fill heading into the season. The Highlanders lost both starting guards and center following graduation, including All- UMAC performer Jonathan Pollock.

“Every year you lose seniors and major contributors,” said Douglas. “I’m anxious to see younger guys step up and make their mark.”

On the defensive side, Javon Muhammad will anchor a solid defensive line. Muhammad was the NCAA Division III leader in TFLs/game in 2017 with 2.7 He is flanked by Trent Harrelson and Wide receiver Jordan Wilkins up front, along with linebackers Ezechukwu Nwagbaraji, Storme Barton and Gino Demetrius Curry Wendes. 4 With the losses of Cory Farneti and London Gulley, the Highlander defense will have two 2018 UMAC PRESEASON POLL holes to fill as Gulley recorded a team-high in tackles a season ago.
