While en route to the Western Ocean between 1405 and 1433, a fleet led by an envoy of the Ming dynasty, Admiral Cheng Ho, visited several times the Malacca Sultanate, which was centred in the modern-day state of Malacca, Malaysia. As a result, some Chinese chose to stay back in Malacca and married the locals.
