This & That DREW COMING THROUGH--Back-up receiver Drew Butera has been on a bit of an offensive roll of late, reaching three times as the starting catcher in last night’s contest with a double and two walks...included was a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning that gave KC a 4-3 lead at the time...his second-inning double marked the sixth consecutive plate appearance in which he had reached safely dating back to his start a week ago today against Minnesota...Drew’s last at-bat on July 22 was a three-run, inside-the-park homer, followed on Monday night against Detroit with a 3-for-3 affair, including a double and hit by pitch, before his double in the opener yesterday...over his last eight games, Butera has batted .375 (9-for-24). NEWBIES CONTRIBUTING--The new outfield duo of Rosell Herrera and Brian Goodwin have made huge offensive contributions of late, including a combined eight hits in yesterday’s split twinbill...Herrera, who was acquired off waivers from Cincinnati on June 2 and recalled to the big league club on June 17, had five hits yesterday, including a pair of first game doubles and has batted .385 (10-for-26) in his last six games to get his season average up to .282...meanwhile Goodwin, who was acquired on Sunday from Washington in a trade for minor league reliever Jacob Condra-Bogan, had three hits yesterday including an exclamation point three-run homer in the eighth inning of game one to put the contest on ice...since joining the Royals on Monday, Goodwin has hit safely in all five games at a .471 clip (8-for-17) with a double, home run and four RBI. DUPER BACK ON TRACK--After two rare misfires, Royals replay guru Bill Duplissea got a familiar result on Monday night when he asked New York to look at a fifth-inning call in which Detroit’s Jose Iglesias was ruled safe at first base...after just 51 seconds, the call on the field was overturned, Duper’s MLB-best 20th overturn of the season...he’s been successful on 76.9% of his challenges this year (20-of-26), which is tops in baseball, ahead of second-place San Francisco (70%), according to numbers released on Friday...KC is also the only club not to have a challenge come back “confirmed” this season...Dupe has made good on 67.2% of his challenges in his career (119-for-177), which ranks among the best, including a Major League best 71.3% success rate over the last three seasons (72-for-101).
