Winter NAMM 2006.Docx Winter NAMM 2006 Our most successful show yet, Winter NAMM 2006 rocked! ISP Technologies was host to many musicians of every ilk, who came down to rock the booth. We had artists from the highly regarded Italian guitarist Massimo Varini, to keyboardists Delmar Brown and David Garfield, to guitar shredder Robert Marcello (Danger Danger), to guitar virtuoso Johnny Hiland, to Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti, all stop by the booth and rock out on both the amazing Theta Vector guitar setup and the ISP Pro Audio gear. Guitarist extraordinaire Allen Holdsworth, who has worked with Buck Waller of ISP on many projects over the years, came by to check out the Theta 300 watt guitar head. Allen was so impressed with it, he took the Theta to a gig Saturday night and not only kept the head, but has agreed to work on a product project with ISP Technologies! Be sure to check the ISP website for further details. Christian Wolburs (Fear Factory), an endorsee for both the Vector SL guitar subwoofer and the Decimator products, was in the booth on Friday signing autographs and drawing a large crowd. When he picked up the guitar to noodle around, that was it…no more free space in the booth! Thanks, Christian, for coming by! Another endorsee, Chimaira, came by just to thank ISP for the Decimator products they use. They join a long list of users and endorsers of both the Decimator Pedal and Decimator Pro Rack G who can’t or won’t gig without their Decimators. With artists like Areosmith, GreenDay (thanks Greg Howard for the kind words!), Anthrax, Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Tommy Victor, Billy Duffy, Keith Nelson, Johnny Hiland, Robert Marcello, and Steve Stevens, using the Decimator, the question is not so much who is using it, but who isn’t? We would also like to thank our newer up-coming artists and endorsees: Justin Corey and Chris Jones with A Dark Halo, Oppera, Devil Driver, Pete Joseph of The Absence, Steve Semich, Marcus Henderson, and Eric Mantel. Thanks for using and talking about the Thetas, Vectors, Decimators and Vector SL’s! We appreciate it! The ISP Technologies Pro Audio sound also got quite the workout this show. ISP will be working with Delmar Brown and David Garcia to develop a keyboard monitoring system, something that Delmar has been after Buck to do for over 3 years. These guys love the ISP sound in the cabinets and want something as good for the keyboardist as ISP currently has for stage and studio monitors and live sound. They agree with Jamie Rio, reviewer for FOH magazine, that the fidelity, mid-range, and clarity of the ISP cabinets are awesome. You can read Jamie’s latest review of the ISP Technologies’ Mongoose system in the February issue of FOH. Our Pro Audio line was also a big hit with several churches that happened to be at the NAMM show to check out new sound systems for their facilities. One church, West Adams Foursquare Church, was so impressed; they bought the two-box mongoose system with XMAX 118 subwoofers right off the NAMM show floor! Another church, Clarence E. McClendon Ministries, working with one of ISP’s awesome approved contractors (Tim Hill, Sound Hill Technologies) recently bought a building that they are currently renovating for a new 1900 seat facility and for which they needed new sound. They spent two days checking out all of the sound companies at the show for their new building After hearing the ISP Mongoose two box system with XMAX 212 subwoofers and 5 VMAX floor wedges in the Kurzwiel performance room, they were sold…ISP would outfit their new, renovated building. Yet another ISP convert and man of mystery, John Aquilino, took a listen in the Kurzweil booth, and purchased the whole system from the Kurzwiel booth. By the time the show was over, ISP didn’t have much packing to do! While ISP Technologies left a lot of gear behind, we also came away from the 2006 NAMM show with several new foreign distributors and dealers! You will now be able to find great ISP gear in the UK, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, Germany, Singapore, Russia, France, the Dominican Republic and Australia. ISP is also in serious talks with Ecuador, Japan, and Austria. ISP international and domestic business continues to grow! See you at NSCA and Summer NAMM! .

With the charismatic Layne Staley behind the microphone, they became one of the most influential and successful bands to come out of the Seattle music scene. But as the band got bigger, so did its problems. Acclaimed journalist David de Sola follows the members from their inauspicious beginnings at a warehouse under the Ballard Bridge through the history of the band, charting:The local hair metal scene in Seattle during the 1980s.How drugs nearly destroyed the band and claimed the lives of Staley and founding bassist Mike Starr.Jerry Cantrells solo career and Mike Starrs life after being fired from the band. The bands resurrection with William DuVall, the Atlanta singer/guitarist who stepped into Layne Staleys shoes.Based on a wealth of interviews with people with direct knowledge of the band and its history, many of whom are speaking on the record for the first time, Alice in Chains will stand as the definitive Alice in Chains biography for years to come.

Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

LateRooms.com - Alice in Chains ready to rock Turin Submitted by: LateRooms Ltd Tuesday, 4 May 2010 Seattle grunge legends Alice in Chains are set to play in Turin this summer, a gig that could provide the perfect opportunity for guests at Turin hotels (http://www.laterooms.com/en/k13666314_turin-hotels.aspx) to dust off their ripped jeans and enjoy an evening of quality alternative music. The band is set to play Colonia Sonora on Wednesday June 9th, with founding member Jerry Cantrell still rocking away alongside William DuVall, who joined the band in 2005 after the death of original vocalist Layne Staley. Fans in the crowd may be pleased to hear that if they are enthusiastic enough they may be treated to an extended set, with the band revealing on their blog that this was the case at a recent gig in St Augustine, Florida. "On a night like tonight, when the crowd is great and the band is a little extra pumped up, they add a song to the encore," they remarked. Attendees can expect to hear songs from the group's back a catalogue of hits, which stretches over more than 25 years and includes hit albums such as their eponymous Alice in Chains record and Jar of Flies. This week, the band confirmed on their official website that they are set to headline Blackdiamondskye in Autumn, with Mastodon and the Deftones providing support. Entrance to the show costs €34.50 (£29.80), with tickets available online. To make the most of the Alice in Chains concert – you should consider booking your hotel Torino (http://www.laterooms.com/it/k13666314_hotel-torino.aspx) to avoid disappointment.

In August, Metallica Club members around the world were able to enter a lottery for a chance to purchase tickets to all the Fillmore shows at a cost of $19.81 for a four-pack of tickets to all of the shows. Single show tickets were $6. All four of the shows immediately sold out. Last week, Metallica welcomed these fans from around the globe to join them in the celebration where there were no repeats in the set lists for the four night stand, aside from the established show closer of “Seek & Destroy,” playing close to 80 different songs. Each night at the Fillmore was hosted by comedian Jim Breuer and opened by the Rebel Souls Brass Band performing Metallica songs. This was followed by fan club winners invited on stage to play “Crash Course Trivia” and “Name That Riff” games where they were able to win exclusive 30th anniversary prizes and memorabilia. Metallica also invited many special guests relevant to their 30 years to the stage to perform with them. The list of guests included Apocalyptica, Armored Saint, Geezer Butler, John Bush, Bif Byford, Jerry Cantrell, Nick “Animal” Culmer, Glenn Danzig, Death Angel, King Diamond, Diamond Head, Marianne Faithfull, Lloyd Grant, Rob Halford, Ray Haller, Pepper Keenan, Kid Rock, Laaz Rockit, John Marshall, Jim Martin, Mercyful Fate, Ron McGovney, Dave Mustaine, Jason Newsted, Ozzy Osbourne, Soul Rebels Brass Band, Lou Reed, Bob Rock, Gary Rossington, and Hugh Tanner.

  • Jerry Cantrell Jerry Cantrell
Jerry Cantrell Jerry Cantrell - vocals / guitar Robert Trujillo - bass Mike Bordin - drums From the lyrically and sonically mournful “Psychotic Break” to when the mental and musical exorcism of Jerry Cantrell's nearly 73-minute aural Degradation Trip concludes with the lovely, somnolent, bluesy strains of “Gone,” the singer/guitarist's Roadrunner debut is a sundry and sometimes scary journey to the center of a psyche. It may not always be a pretty trip, but it's a close-to-the-bone excursion that haunts both its creator and its listeners. As the multi-faceted artist relates, “In '98, I locked myself in my house, went out of my mind and wrote 25 songs,” says the then-fully-bearded Cantrell. “I rarely bathed during that period of writing; I sent out for food, I didn't really venture out of my house in three or four months. It was a hell of an experience. The album is an overview of birth to now. That's all,” he grins, though the visceral and haunting songs, by turns soaring and raw, do reflect that often-naked and sometimes-grim truth. “Boggy Depot [his 1998 solo bow] is like Kindergarten compared to this,” he furthers. “The massive sonic growth from Boggy Depot to Degradation Trip is comparable to the difference between our work in the Alice In Chains albums Facelift to Dirt, which was also a tremendous leap.” And all of Cantrell's 25 prolifically penned songs will see the light of day by 2003. Degradation Trip, which will be released June 18, is comprised of 14 songs from the personal, transcendent writing marathon that inspired such self-searching cuts as “Bargain Basement Howard Hughes,” “Hellbound,” and “Profalse Idol.” The second batch of songs—“as sad and brutal as Degradation Trip” —Cantrell promises, are due out on Roadrunner 2003.
