San Francisco Foghorn/2 Wednesday, May 3,1988 ^NEWS R. Michael Hart ASUSF Presents ... Dots Until Darkness... rf ^\ We're getting a new phone system here at good ole USF. I have a few questions about ASAP Presents . . . this new system: 1. Did Pac Bell really have to put their brand new manhole in Hamey lawn instead of the street, where it belongs? At first I thought that they weren't going to rip up the road, but they're doing that right now. 2. Will this new phone system be as reliable as the unreliable emergency phones and lights? 3. Is Pac Bell going to change the prefixes on campus from 666 to something else? I always enjoyed saying "Dial-the-beast-6880" when I was on the air at KDNS.

This just in...USF did want to change the prefixes, but when they heard of the outrageous cost, said "No way." I say HOORAY! Give a Mt are medal to the guy who decided not to be a n 250-252 mullet-head and save some money for a change.

Because we do more than just talk about great service. Other banks may claim to have quick service and a complete line of education loan programs. But compare their products and services to ours and you'll see why we re the lender more California students choose.

Service Do you know where your student loans are? Seriously - many California banks use outside organizations to service their loans. The result - mass confusion. Where do you call with questions? Who do you send your payments to9 Marine Midland's Educational Funding Services uses a state of the art, in-house processing system.. .eliminating any unnecessary confusion. The result - fast, professional service by a concerned and caring staff.

Loan Alternatives One sure way to measure a bank s commitment to education finance is to look at the number of different loan programs they offer. Educational Funding Services offers not only the Stafford, SLS and PLUS loans...but MEDLOANS a loan program for allopathic medical students...as well as an Alternative Loan Program for families with higher incomes.

I Debt Management Assistance You hear a lot of talk about students defaulting on their student loans. But did they get anything from their bank other than overdue notices? At EFSI, well give you the tools and information you need to manage your debt, including: • Graduated Repayment Options • Loan Consolidation

So when you re asked which bank you want your student loan from... choose California s best:

Wednesday May 3,1989 San Francisco Foghorn/15 TV EWS & cCOMIC S Media, Continued from Page 1 BLOOM COUNTY by Berke Breathed the addition of two more computers to the Foghorn office, should "open doors to the newspaper that were virtually inaccessible to us in the past" Faced with a drastically reduced ASUSF subsidy, the new Editor-in- Chief seems confident that her staff will be able to make up the slack. "We came in under budget this year which no one expected, in fact we were a little surprised that we did so well. We have the equipment and a determined staff that will nol allow a reduced AS subsidy to cause the quality of the campus newspaper to deteriorate." In other appointments made by the Media Council last Wednesday, Wan Suwandi was named Editor-in-Chief of USF's yearbook, the Don. This appointment was considered by thc Media Council to be of upmost importance for thc future ofthe yearbook due to the students' virtually indifferent reaction to it since the Don was resurrected in 1983. Jill Azevedo was appointed to the post of Station Manager of USF's beleaguered KDNS-AM. KDNS suffered considerable setbacks this year due to student apathy derived, in part, from the station's difficulty to attract a sizable audi ence. The council hopes that Azevedo will be able to encourage student participation, as well as develop an audience for USF's AM station. The position of editor of the Ignatian, USF's literary magazine was left temporarily vacant due to the fact that Zack Holdowsky sumitted his application late. The Ignatian, the only on-campus media organization to receive an increased AS subsidy, finds itself without an editor to collect and organize creative works submitted by USF's undergraduates. Thc Ignatian, like the Don, is itself a traditional USF publication that has been brought back to life after losing student support years ago. Criticized for production oversights and its lack of depth in content, the Ignatian has been appropriated funds that should allow it to correct recent errors and live up to the expectations of the University commu nity.
