Passionist Office for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation... The Passionist Office of Solidarity and Mission organized a seminar-workshop on JPIC (Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation) at the Generalate in from April 13-19, 2015. Fr. Jesús María Aristín, the Secretary General for the Missions and JPIC, convened this remarkable gathering of over 60 members of the Passionist Family from 24 countries. Workshop presenters included Adolfo Pérez Esquivel (Nobel Peace Prize recipient), Fr. Alex Zanotelli (Comboni Missionary), Fr. Joe Mitchell, Fr. Martin Newell (United Kingdom), Antonietta Potente, and Andrea Riccardi (founder of the community of Sant’Egidio of Rome). The aim of the workshop was to form a network of Solidarity among Passionists – vowed and lay – who work in the areas of justice, peace and the integrity of creation.

Joe Mitchell presented two plenary sessions on Thomas Berry and the new cosmology. Fr. Martin Coffey, director of the Passionist International Formation Commission, introduced the session by saying that Thomas Berry is perhaps the most famous Passionist after St. Paul of the Cross. Since Berry has not been translated into Italian or Spanish, this was the first opportunity for many Passionists outside the English-speaking countries to learn about him.

Parish Missions are Waking Up the World... Jack Conley recently gave a Parish Mission at St. John Vianney in Mentor, Ohio. Pastor Thomas Johns wrote a thoughtful reflection on the Passionist Charism and published it in their parish bulletin on Easter Sunday: “To the left is a picture of me and Father Jack Conley, a Passionist from Chicago, after the closing night of the Lenten Mission a little over a week ago. Over 500 people attended each night of the mission, and so many of the participants said that their participation in each of the four nights proved to be a wonderful preparation for Holy Week and the celebration of Easter.

Like all members of the Passionist Community, Father Jack took a special vow to spend his energies in promoting remembrance of the sufferings of Jesus, the memory of the Cross, and reflection of the meaning of the Cross for our world. His vow is a commitment to proclaim ’s great love made known through the Cross of Jesus. I know that my time in the church with Father Jack helped me to prepare well for the celebration of our Lord’s Passion on Good Friday and it has helped me to better appreciate the great love of Jesus Christ for our world which we celebrate on this solemn feast of Easter. Thomas Johns and Jack Conley. I hope that you had a wonderful Holy Week and that this Easter celebration might help you to grow in your appreciation of God’s great love for you. Remember that Father Jack said that ‘you are the apple of His eye and He loves you more than you can possibly imagine.’ God did not send his Son into this world to condemn it but to save it.” Reprinted with permission.
