An NCKA Handbook was commissioned with Mr. Patrick Vora (University of Pennsylvania) as its editor. It is my understanding that Sally Grimes and J. [email protected] D. The review process for the Journal of the NCKA (JNCKA) was modified from a blind review to an open review process, and our eligibility Anthony Nakazawa requirements for participation were clarified to state that recently graduating seniors could participate in the (University of Alaska) as national collegiate championships if their 4 year eligibility was valid at the end of semester of the preceding academic year. secretary JNCKA and NCKA access on the internet will soon be available on the http://www.ISKF.com website. She has been more than generous with providing medical services and expertise at ISKF events for many years. I have known and Steve Pohle (College of worked with Sensei Cline, Northwest Region Director, since 1985, and Dr. Koo, prior to her moving to William and Mary) North Carolina, at ISKF HQ, and Sensei Sill, Southern Region Director, since 1968 with the military karate [email protected] clubs in Europe and with the ISKF. Since its inception I am happy to say that this branch of the International Shotokan Karate Association has consistently grown and flourished. It is a difficult task to keep our dojos growing, and even more difficult for our colleges and universities. They must adhere to many rules and regulations of those institutions while doing their best to maintain the tradition of our Shotokan karate martial art. This has been achieved under the direction of Dr. Paul Smith, Chairman of the NCKA and assisted by Mr. James Sim and Dr. Anthony Nakazawa. They have volunteered their time and efforts to accomplish their goal of bringing Shotokan karate to as many universities and colleges nationwide. I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to them as well as all of the instructors and assistants who volunteer their time for all of the members of the National Collegiate Karate Association. I have stated many times that our collegiate students are the future of the ISKF. Many of us, me included have begun our karate training in these learning institutions. It is the opportune time to try to mold the younger generation while they are in the process of not only learning academically, but also about themselves. There is no better way to learn more about oneself than in karate training. And at the same time, learning to be a good human being. With these tools, when they leave their colleges and universities and enter the work establishment, hopefully they will bring their spiritual knowledge of perfection of character and their dojo kun to help others. This can assuredly make the world a better place. This is the ultimate goal of the ISKF and the karate-ka of the NCKA can help bring this goal to fruition. Sincerely, Teruyuki Okazaki Chairman & Chief Instructor International Shotokan Karate Federation Page 2 By-Laws of the National Collegiate Karate Association Approved and Adopted June 7, 2008 at Master Camp Meeting Article I Offices and Purpose Section
