East London, London £730,000 Share of Freehold Bow Brook House

Bow Brook is a smart Victorian school building in that was converted into a group of apartments in the 1980s. Te building occupies a wonderfully quiet spot right next to Regent’s Canal and Victoria Park, for lovely walks to the rest of east and north London. Tis two-bedroom apartment is on the ground foor and makes great use of the double-height ceilings and huge arch windows that food the living spaces with light. Te whole roof of the building has been converted to a communal roof terrace with long- reaching views.

Entrance is through one of the original ‘Boys, Girls and Infants’ school doors. Inside, the hallway has been cleverly redesigned by the current owner in association with London and Berlin-based design studio Vandelvelt. Tey devised a white metal spiral staircase that leads upstairs to the kitchen, ofce and second bedroom, while allowing light through its perforated surface.

Tall arched windows defne the living space, which is a voluminous. Tere are warm-hued original parquet foors on the ground foor, and the original two-tone brickwork has been left bare in a nod to the building’s previous incarnation. Te master bedroom and bathroom are downstairs, with windows to the quiet private grounds. Tis is one of few apartments in the building with a dual aspect.

Up a second set of stairs is the kitchen, ftted in white with painted foorboards and a white metal railing that looks over the living room. Tis moves seamlessly into the new ofce space, which sits atop the metal spiral staircase. Te second bedroom, currently used as a snug, has yellow shuttered doors also to a design by Vandelvelt that are warm canary yellow on one side and aquamarine on the other.

Bow Brook is one of the few large Victorian buildings to remain after the war and the following recent redevelopment in Bethnal Green. It is well-equipped with gated grounds and residents parking.

Bethnal Green is now one of the more established neighbourhoods. It is home to a thriving range of traditional pubs and cafes, such as E Pellicci, Tayyabs and Te Approach Tavern, as well as a new wave of bars and restaurants including Brawn, Redchurch Brewery and Sager +Wilde on Paradise Row. Just accross the canal from Bow Brook is Victoria Park and the much-loved Pavilion café and Chisenhale Gallery.

It is a 13-minute walk to Bethnal Green (Central line) and (Central, District and Hammersmith & City lines) Underground stations. Te Overground also runs from Bethnal Green and Heath towards both Liverpool Street and north-east London.
