2 3 FROM THE EDITOR...

e have been fortunate this month in obtaining a copy of the WParish Magazine for August 1925 which is reproduced on the cover of this issue. It was found at the bottom of a sewing box that had been inherited by Hazel Bowyer who has lived in the village all her life, and was kept because it announced the marriage of her Aunt Margaret at St Michael’s Church on June 27th 1925. (that page of the magazine was reproduced in our August issue). Our grateful thanks to Hazel for unearthing this treasure for us! Which brings me to muse on all the water that has flowed under Britain’s bridge in that span of 95 years. Here’s a few that you might recall! Of course, I have missed a few important events out but we don’t have the space for everything, and you may well have prioritised other things. Whilst it’s not good to dwell on the past too much it is a good place to learn. And maybe to speculate on what Tony Parker might lie ahead. Would dear old Aunt Margaret have even dreamt of the internet, even of TV which was only just around the corner. And having survived the First World War – “the war Painter and Decorator to end all wars” would she have, in 1925, contemplated the Second? Or the nuclear bomb? Travelling to Spain or the Caribbean for a week’s holiday? Would the flu pandemic of 1918 which infected a third of the world’s population, have alerted her to the fact that there QUICK might be another one in the future with all the medical advances made in the interim? Whilst we have taken huge strides in technology, we don’t seem to have mastered the RELIABLE art of living together without squabbling or grandstanding or trying to force our ideology on others. We seem to be doers rather than be-ers, and whilst doing things is necessary and FULLY INSURED part of our DNA (only discovered in 1953), we should step back a bit and think more. It might HONEST & be more convenient for a handful of people to get from to Birmingham in less than an hour, (excluding the hassle and time involved in getting to and from the termini), but TRUSTWORTHY will it make us any happier as a nation? Did High Speed Concorde, which was scrapped after 14 years, make us better people? For general enquiries or I’m not knocking progress, I’m all for it, but we do need to take a look and see if we are progressing in the right direction! As a result of the pandemic, we are learning to do things free estimates call in a different way, some good, some not so good; let’s take the good ones forward. Common sense is not much in evidence these days, it’s all algorithms and shiny new Tony Parker toys. Let’s not chuck them out of the pram, but maybe reconsider how to use them in a on 07711 318527 more people friendly way, as we get back “to normal”, whatever that is! It’s no good blaming the government if things don’t go right, they are only representative of us. It’s down to you. Really. Whatever you do or wherever you are, we thank you for your support for us during the lockdown, We have worked hard to get your favourite magazine out to you in all of this and it is comforting to know that copies have been flying off the shelves in the last few months. And that was down to you!
