Leland Faulkner Study Guide Worldofwonder Final.Pdf
World of Wonder With Award Winning Theatre Artist- Leland Faulkner An Educator’s Guide Welcome to the show! World of Wonder is an amazing theatrical experience that will transport you around the world. Growing up with an international background inspired Leland to create a program that will transport you to faraway places. Leland will leave you with an unforgettable experience that will live in your imagination for a long, long time. This program is presented as part of the Artists-in-the-Schools Program, which is funded and jointly sponsored by the Hillsborough County School District and the Arts Council of Hillsborough County. Synopsis of the Show World of Wonder includes universal characters, funny stories, and mysterious happenings from the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. This performance expresses the source of our commonality no matter the cultural or racial background, and draws on the source of our ability to imagine and dream, and the power of theatre to make those dreams tangible. The techniques used to create these pieces include acting, mime, storytelling, shadow play, and legerdemain or sleight of hand. Although the repertoire in World of Wonder is ever expanding, and may contain something a little different from what is described here, it usually begins with shadowgraphs, or shadows made with the hands. Leland re-introduced this art to audiences in the 1980’s when he partnered with the famous mime Tony Montanaro. Leland constantly practices and studies the technique and history of theatre and variety arts. In his opinion, shadowgraphs exemplify the idea that you don’t need a ton of production to be evocative. -

Twin Peaks 101: Pilot 1990
TWIN PEAKS #001 Written by Mark Frost and David Lynch Based on, If Any First Draft JULY 12, 1989 Revisions: August 10, 1989 - Blue August 18, 1989 - Pink ACT ONE FADE IN: 1. EXT. GREAT NORTHERN HOTEL - DAY 1. Dawn breaks over the Great Northern. CUT TO: 2. INT. GREAT NORTHERN HOTEL ROOM - DAY 2. We hear him before we see him, but DALE COOPER is perched six inches above the floor in a one-handed yoga "frog" position, wearing boxer shorts and a pair of socks, talking into the tape recorder which is sitting on the carpet near his head. COOPER Diane ... 6:18 a.m., room 315, Great Northern Hotel up here in Twin Peaks. Slept pretty well. Non- smoking room. No tobacco smell. That's a nice consideration for the business traveller. A hint of douglas fir needles in the air. As Sheriff Truman indicated they would, everything this hotel promised, they've delivered: clean, reasonably priced accomodations ... telephone works ... bathroom in really tip-top shape ... no drips, plenty of hot water with good, steady pressure ... could be a side- benefit of the waterfall just outside my window ... firm mattress, but not too firm ... and no lumps like that time I told you about down in El Paso ... Diane, what a nightmare that was, but of course you've heard me tell that story once or twice before. Haven't tried the television. Looks like cable, probably no reception problems. But the true test of any hotel, as you know, is that morning cup of coffee, which I'll be getting back to you about within the half hour .. -

Three Facts of Deference

It has been accepted for inclusion in Articles by an authorized administrator of Alabama Law Scholarly Commons. THREE FACES OF DEFERENCE Paul Horwitz* Deference-the substitution by a decisionmaker of someone else's judg- ment for its own-is a pervasive tool of constitutional doctrine. But although it has been studied at more abstract levels of jurisprudence and at very specific doctrinal levels, it has received surprisingly little general atten- tion in constitutional scholarship. This Article aims to fill that gap. This Article makes three primary contributions to the literature. First, it provides a careful examination of deference as a doctrinal tool in constitu- tional law, and offers a taxonomy of deference. In particular,it suggests that deference can best be understood as relying on two separatebut overlap- ping grounds: deference on the basis of the legal authority of the deferee, and deference on the basis of the deferee's epistemic, or knowledge-based, authority. Importantly, this Article suggests that deference cannot be examinedfrom the standpoint of the deferring institution-usually,the courts-alone. Rather, we must also take into account the obligations of deferees, which should demand deference only for those decisions reached in the full andfair exercise of their legal or epistemic authority. -

Rock ‘n’ Roll Villains: Ravi Shavi unleash Special Hazards On their third full-length release, Special Hazards, Ravi Shavi unleash a collection of 14 songs chock full of grooves, trashy surf and classic pop. Gems like “Going Going Gone” come off like a letter to an old flame with singer/guitarist Rafay Rashid asking, “How’s the city, how’s your mom, do you still have a car, have you taken your pills, have you smoken a joint?” The wistful chorus features backing vocals from Roz Raskin. One of the older songs in Ravi Shavi’s repertoire, “Is It True,” is a sunny burst of classic pop buttressed by backing vocals from Raskin as well as Kate Jones and Emily Shaw of The Sugar Honey Iced Tea. “High Hopes” has a Cramps-style guitar-from-the-gutter stomp with a guest appearance by Ian O’Neil of Deer Tick. O’Neil also appears on “Violence,” which has an early 2000s alternative rock flavor. “Absent Minded Fool” is a lament with the feel of a cool flamenco guitar gone wrong. The final track, “Casino,” is my favorite with its eerily seductive lyrics like, “Why don’t you take a gamble, I’ll be your casino,” floating like smoke through the air over a funky garage backbeat. Special Hazards is available now on Ravi Shavi’s Bandcamp page with physical copies on vinyl and CD coming later this year. I spoke with Rafay Rashid to discuss pandemic living, how he and guitarist Nick Politelli write, and the villainous undercurrent flowing through Special Hazards. -
