VOLuME VIiI - ISSuE 0002 Saturday, 8th September, 2012 FREE THE REALLY WILD SHOW It’s Saturday, and that can only mean one thing at : It’s fancy dress day, and we’re expecting a marvellous menagerie as 50,000 of the world’s wildest creatures party on down in the Bestival sunshine. The grand fancy dress parade starts at 5pm at the Carnival Village in Green Camp, so head down there after 4pm today to get in your bloco and join in the fun. Before then, our annual fancy dress catwalk competition takes place (outside The Dressing Up Box next to Bollywood). There are categories for best individual, best group and also best kids, and there are Bestival 2013 tickets up for grabs for the winners, so that’s a date in your diary for 2pm today. And just in case you still haven’t sorted your costume, you can make one with the help of carnival experts Quture, who are based at Carnival Village and will be running workshops all weekend. DANDY: Adam Ant Bestival got properly underway yesterday beneath glorious blue skies, and First Aid Kit were an early hit on the Main Stage with a sublime set including a bewitching cover of Paul Simon’s America. Adam Ant - replete in full dandy highwayman get- up - wowed the Main Stage crowd with a hit-packed set, before everything went berserk for Gallows, who seemed to spend half the time playing in the moshpit. Replay got in on the action and was full to bursting for Mercury-nominated Alt-J, and arenas across the THE CHEEK OF IT!: Tootsie Rollers in Magic Meadow site pulled huge crowds as everyone made the most of the September sunshine. As night drew in (and things got a bit chillier) Emile Sandé warmed everybody up nicely for the headliners, and following on from a legendary Big Top show in 2010, The xx produced a stunning set peppered with gems from new album Coexist. And then came Florence + the Machine, who closed the Main Stage with a typically mesmerising performance. The night was still though, and the Big Top took over as the biggest crowd magnet - Zane Lowe and SBTRKT playing to a heaving mass before 2manydjs and techno legend Derek Saunderson closed out the night.
