CP70II User Guide
6/6/10 Page 1 INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing the Hollow Sun Definitive CP70II. It features samples from possibly the ultimate electric piano with bonus sounds from other classic EPs. ABOUT THE PIANOS The Yamaha CP70 electric grand piano was a miniature grand piano. It used fewer and shorter strings thus allowing a smaller frame to be used. Yamaha claimed it was ‘portable’ but at 313lbs, you needed at least two fairly burly blokes to transport it! It made a great sound and has been played by a host of eminent keyboard players. It was a signature sound of Tony Banks in the later years of Genesis and the band Keane revived the sound as a prominent feature in their music in their early days but other players include Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Abba, U2, Simple Minds, George Duke, Bruce Hornsby, Jeff Lorber and many, many others. In its time, the Wurlitzer EP200 was the only serious alternative to the Rhodes electric piano and found fame with bands such as the Small Faces, Supertramp and many, many others. Generally, it tended to be more popular in the UK than elsewhere where the Rhodes was favoured (especially in ‘jazzier’ circles). Like the Rhodes, the sound was created by a hammer hitting small flat ‘reeds’. The vibration of these reeds was turned into an electrical signal using an electrostatic pickup going to a mono output. The sound is not dissimilar to a Rhodes but has a brighter, more aggressive quality to it (exaggerated in Supertramp's hit ‘Dreamer’). The Hohner Pianet came from the same stable as the renowned Clavinet. -

PC2 Classic Keys User's Guide
PC2 Classic Keys User’s Guide The Classic Keys ROM option equips your PC2 with authentic reproductions of “vintage” keyboard sounds, which over the years have become essential to the modern keyboardist. The PC2 Classic Keys ROM contains samples of the following instruments: Hohner Clavinet (Treble Pickup Setting and Release Thump), Mellotron (Strings, Choir and Flute) ARP Solina String Ensemble, Hohner Pianet, Yamaha CP-80 Electric Grand Piano (Soft and Hard Strikes), and RMI Electra-Piano (Piano, Harpsi and Accenter). Classic Keys also makes use of the PC2 base ROM samples, and includes new “vintage” Rhodes, Wurlitzer and KB3 programs. Each program in this set was created using high-quality audio samples as a starting point. The PC2’s synthesis engine allowed us to apply a variety of powerful sound-sculpting tools, which included velocity layers and cross- fades, envelopes, FUNs and LFOs. The finishing touches were added with the PC2’s effects engine, which utilizes the same technology as our acclaimed KDFX (for the K2500/K2600 keyboards) and our award-winning KSP8 pro- cessor. Effects pedals, speaker cabinets and recording techniques have all been faithfully replicated, giving the Classic Keys programs a level of detail and realism never before achieved in any “vintage” keyboard emulation. We were able to precisely recreate the timbres from many live and studio recordings, which have helped define the “vintage” sound. Therefore, a number of the program names in Classic Keys have been derived from song titles and not keyboard model numbers. We have included a detailed chart, which lists the controller assignments for each program and setup. -
