Previously dis- CD played since the library's opening in 1994, the collection was removed in the summer of 2004 to allow for the window Q- and door glass in the library's lobby to be replaced and upgraded with hurricane glass. Once the glass replacement a project was completed, the original shelves did not fit cor- oCO rectly and new shelves had to be created. Organizing, clean- o ing and numbering the shells to prepare them for the new CM shelves is an involved process. The collection is back, but a> some of the numbering and cataloguing is still underway. CM The shell collection was originally the personal Florida and Caribean shell collection of Elsie Malone. Ms. Malone owned and operated the first specimen shell shop on the Islands. Her wonderful and unique collection was donated to the Sanibel Public Library by her daughter Elsie M. Malone.
