IBM United States Software Announcement 219-174 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1 Overview

Developers want solutions that provide an iterative approach to application modernization. These solutions must be based on business needs and application complexity. Priority must be given to solutions that take advantage of existing software investments and a trusted infrastructure. In addition, adoption of new technologies must be controlled and implemented at an organization's own pace.

Success in the new era depends on how enterprises transform IT to bring increased agility and speed to their existing business. As enterprise IT is required to implement business strategies to enter new markets, reach new customers, and drive competitive differentiation, IT needs a new way to build software that is faster, more flexible, and more serviceable.

Reusable components are also required to allow for rapid assembly of applications in support of dynamic business needs. This approach requires an application platform that offers:

• Modular architectures • Next-generation integration techniques • A cloud-first, mobile-first mindset • Seamless portability across a hybrid landscape

WebSphere Application Server, with its traditional and Liberty runtimes, offers production-ready, standards-based compliance to support the Application Modernization strategies that underpin business transformation. Additional features and enhancements to WebSphere Application Server offer an ideal infrastructure that is well-suited for enterprise IT, upon which businesses can deliver composable applications and enhancements to help operational modernization. Converging the operational models of traditional WebSphere Application Server and Kubernetes takes advantage of Kubernetes platform services, such as logging and monitoring. This helps to enable secure, flexible, and efficient access to internal or external software components and services. These enhancements ease integration of WebSphere runtimes in the DevOps workflows to provide continuous integration and continuous delivery to container-based Kubernetes environments such as IBM Cloud.

• WebSphere Liberty is Java EE 8 compatible and built on the open source Open Liberty project. Java EE 8 updates include: – Reactive client and server-side events in JAX-RS 2.1 – Asynchronous events in CDI 2.0, Servlet 4.0 that includes HTTP/2 support – Java Server Faces (JSF) 2.3 and Java Persistence API (JPA) 2.2 In addition to the Java EE 8 updates, clients can now deploy their Spring Boot applications to WebSphere Liberty, control certificate mapping to users, document RESTful APIs with OpenAPI, and configure single logout for single sign-on (SSO) applications. • WebSphere Liberty supports the Eclipse MicroProfile programming model to develop microservice applications. MicroProfile complements the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 8 programming models. While Java EE provides a solid foundation to create microservices, it also needed technologies and programming models that better suit microservices applications. Therefore, IBM and other companies worked together to launch MicroProfile, an open collaboration between developers, the community, and vendors. • WebSphere Liberty (19.0.0.1 and newer) supports Java SE 11, as provided by OpenJDK with OpenJ9 (11.02 and newer). • Kubernetes support accelerates delivery of modern applications with easier integration of WebSphere Application Server into the clients' DevOps tools chain. Use of WebSphere Application Server with Kubernetes enables seamless portability to deliver applications from development, to test, and to production across a hybrid landscape, and supports the management of WebSphere

IBM United States Software Announcement 219-174 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2 Application Server Docker containers as part of a broader Docker-centric ecosystem. • WebSphere Liberty and traditional WebSphere Application Server Cloud Paks for IBM Cloud Private to run Docker containers in an orchestration environment such as Kubernetes, with a set of related artifacts that include: – Ingress setup – Horizontal auto-scaling policies – Persistent transactions – Dynamically mounted configuration – Logging and metrics dashboards – Session caching – Node affinity rules – And more These artifacts are easily configured, shared, and deployed. Description

WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5 enhancements help converge the operational models of traditional WebSphere and Kubernetes. Existing applications can take advantage of Kubernetes platform services, such as logging and monitoring, to enable both existing and net-new applications to be managed in a consistent

IBM United States Software Announcement 219-174 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3 way. WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5, in conjunction with IBM Cloud Private or IBM Cloud Application Platform, enables clients to create and deploy Java 8- based microservices by using MicroProfile and Kubernetes with the skills and experience they already possess. WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5 accelerates the transition to containers with simplified app-centric management for hybrid deployments, proactive problem determination, and logging and monitoring.

For information on IBM Cloud Application Platform V2.0, see Software Announcement 219-150, dated February 26, 2019.

WebSphere Application Server is a proven, high-performance transactional runtime that helps clients build, run, integrate, and manage dynamic business applications. WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5 now brings the latest in Java enterprise standards to WebSphere Application Server.

All WebSphere Application Server editions are built on a common server foundation that is designed to deliver the same Java EE and broad programming model support and transactional runtime. However, WebSphere Liberty is designed and optimized for fast-paced deployments of applications that deliver business value through continuous integration and delivery.

WebSphere Application Server traditional and WebSphere Liberty continue to deliver the highest level of enterprise qualities of services that are required for the most demanding workloads. These include rock-solid security, high availability, reliability, and serviceability, a high-performance transaction engine, and intelligent management capabilities that minimize end-user outages and maximize operations.

WebSphere Liberty, while maintaining cloud-friendly aspects, such as light weight and fast startup, extends these capabilities through additional programming models and ease of integration with DevOps workflows that shorten the delivery lifecycle of modern applications.

WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5 delivers the Application Navigator feature for application developers and owners to provide a complete management view of their WebSphere application assets across Kubernetes clusters and WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment cells and collectives. It provides a simplified single view to drill down to different aspects of the application to simplify lifecycle management, health, and performance. Application Navigator allows multi- component applications to be viewed and managed, and seamlessly extends into IBM Multicloud Manager where multi-cluster, policy-based automation and placement is controlled.

Another new feature in WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5 is Liberty advisor, a complementary part of the broader Transformation Advisor capability in IBM Cloud Private. Liberty advisor is built into the traditional WebSphere Administrative Console. It analyzes the enterprise applications that clients select. Then, they can quickly see at a glance apps that are ready for deployment to WebSphere Application Server Liberty and that need some additional modification. Clients can view the detailed report that is generated to get recommendations and advice for preparing the apps for deployment to WebSphere Application Server Liberty.

WebSphere Application Server offers trade-up part numbers as a convenient pathway to migrate to IBM Cloud Application Platform. For example, a client who has previously acquired a license for WebSphere Application Server can now trade up to IBM Cloud Application Platform. In order to be eligible to acquire equivalent licenses of the trade-up products, clients must have previously acquired licenses and have active Software Subscription and Support (S&S) in place for all of the licenses of WebSphere Application Server that will be given up by the use of the trade-up part numbers. Clients with lapsed support of WebSphere Application Server must reinstate their S&S contracts to be eligible for trade-up options to IBM Cloud Application Platform.

WebSphere Liberty (19.0.0.1 and newer) now supports Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE) 11, as provided by OpenJDK with OpenJ9 (11.0.2 and newer). Java SE 11 was released in September 2018. It is the first long term support (LTS) major release since Java SE 8. Java SE 9 and Java SE 10 were released earlier, but these

IBM United States Software Announcement 219-174 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 4 were not LTS releases. There have been a lot of enhancements to Java between Java 8 and 11, such as Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3, local variables, the Flow API (Reactive Streams), and more. The correct OpenJDK 11 can be downloaded from AdoptOpenJDK. The Open Liberty security team found a few important compatibility bugs that were fixed in OpenJDK 11.0.2.

Support Lifecycle policies

Beginning January 2019, WebSphere Liberty started to deliver electronic updates every 4 weeks (up to 13 per year), rather than once every quarter. With this change, IBM revised the continuous delivery Support Lifecycle policies for both WebSphere Liberty and traditional WebSphere Application Server.

WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment offerings provide entitlement to two different application servers:

• WebSphere Application Server traditional • WebSphere Liberty

While a single Software Support Lifecycle policy usually governs an offering by program-number level, in this case WebSphere Application Server traditional and WebSphere Liberty each have their own Software Support Lifecycle policy.

WebSphere Application Server traditional continues to adhere to the Enhanced IBM Software Support Lifecycle Policy that provides:

• A minimum of five years' standard support • An option to get support extensions for an additional three years ("5+3" support) See WebSphere Application Server Support Lifecycle website for details.

WebSphere Liberty adheres to a Single Stream Continuous Delivery (SSCD) Software Support Lifecycle policy that differs from the IBM Continuous Delivery Software Support Lifecycle Policy. Because WebSphere Liberty consists of a single code stream with many Continuous Delivery (CD) updates each year, there are certain limits placed on supported CD updates. This provides the most optimal support to a broad client base and also allows clients to adopt CD updates at their own pace. For details, see the Single Stream Continuous Delivery (SSCD) Software Support Lifecycle Policy: WebSphere Liberty website.

Accessibility by people with disabilities

A US Section 508 Accessibility Compliance Report containing details on accessibility compliance can be found on the Product accessibility information website.

Product positioning

The WebSphere Application Server family offers several configuration options and support for multiple business models and deployment platforms. It also supports a wide range of scenarios:

• Open-source-based projects and projects with no readily available budget • Simple administration of a single server environment • A clustered, highly available, high-volume environment with edge-of-network services
