Agricultural Tourism & Food Security, Introduction to Tourism, Nature-Based Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Society, Introduction to Socio-Cultural Anthropology, Anthropology of Tourism

Statement of Teaching Philosophy

As an interdisciplinary researcher and teacher, I feel a need for my students to understand the ways in which social and political shape the construction and utilization of knowledge and believe strongly in the transformative nature of learning. To this end, I employ reflective assignments that require students to critically examine their own beliefs and values in relationship to course content, theory and practice. Assignments often take the form of community service learning projects, and case studies. This is done to personally engage the students; by empowering them to take ownership of their learning, creating opportunities for them to make connections between course content and

their daily lives, I hope to engage them in deeper scholarship which allows them to draw connections between their beliefs / values, the larger university community and interdisciplinary scholarship.
