Track and Field Nabs Ten Future Wolves in Early Signing Period

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State University Head Coach Kevin Bjerke announced Friday the signing of ten student- athletes for the 2018-19 season. Tava Berg (Watertown, S.D.), Molly Boyum (Jackson, Minn.), Jennifer Clark (Rochester, Minn.), Dekunseh Doe (Bismarck, N.D.), Rachel Guthmiller (Onida, S.D.), Jackson Harrison (Aberdeen, S.D.), Kealy Hill (Gillette, Wyo.), Ilynn Jaycox (Pipestone, Minn.), Jordyn Sterud (Appleton, Minn.), and Jared Tyrrell (Pender, Neb.) will join the Wolves next fall.

“We pride ourselves in having a well-balanced track and field program and are excited to be bringing in some exceptional talent across many different event areas,” explained Bjerke. “These ten young men and women are a great start to another outstanding recruiting class. It is always a pleasure to give local talent an opportunity to shine as a Wolf, and we are especially excited to have two state meet runner-up performers in Jackson and Rachel staying local to compete with the Wolves. They will be joined by some talented support from surrounding states, highlighted by pole vault standout Kealy Hill who was last year’s Wyoming 4A State Champion.”

Tava Berg // Watertown, S.D. // Watertown HS Tava Berg is a jumper and sprinter out of Watertown High School. She is a 4-year letter winner for the Arrows under head coach Chad Rohde. Berg holds a personal best 5’4” in the high jump while also contributing to the Arrow’s sprints and relays. She is the daughter of Doug and Stacy Berg, and the sister of current Wolves track and field athlete Tanner Berg.

Molly Boyum // Jackson, Minn. // Jackson County Central HS Molly Boyum is a sprinter and hurdler out of Jackson County Central High School. She is a 3-year letter winner and senior team captain for the Huskies under head coach Rafe York. Boyum holds personal records of 48.07 in the 300m hurdles and 1:01.3 in the 400m. She is a 3-time all- conference honoree, 2017 all-section performer, and the Big South 300m Hurdles Champion. Boyum holds the school record in the 300m hurdles and qualified for the MSHSL State Track meet. She is the daughter of Kevin and Mary Boyum.

Jennifer Clark // Rochester, Minn. // Mayo HS Jennifer Clark is a mid-distance and cross country runner out of Mayo High School. She is a 4- year letter winner for track and field, 2-year letter winner in cross country, and team captain for the Spartans under the direction of head coach Brett Caroll. She holds a personal record of 19:24.00 in the 5k for cross country. Clark is also a 2-time all-conference honoree in cross country. On the track, she holds personal records of 1:01.9 in the 400m and 2:21.2 in the 800m. Clark finished fifth at the section meet in the 800 in 2017, as was named all-conference in the event. She is also a member of the Mayo 4x800 team, which placed third at the section meet in 2017, and earned all-conference honorable mention in 2016. Clark is also a member of the soccer and Nordic ski teams at Mayo. She is the daughter of Stephen and Karen Clark.

Dekunseh Doe // Bismarck, N.D. // Century HS Dekunseh Doe is a sprinter out of Century High School. She is a 3-year letter winner and senior team captain for the Patriots under head coach Courtney Olirich. Doe is a 3-time state qualifier and a member of the fourth place 4x100 relay at the 2017 ND State Track and Field Meet. She holds personal records of 26.02 in the 200m and 59.99 in the 400m. The Patriots are 5-time North Dakota State Championships. Doe is also a member of the state runner-up team. She is the daughter of Phillip and Selena Glekiah.

Rachel Guthmiller // Onida, S.D. // Sully Buttes HS Rachel Guthmiller is a thrower out of Sully Buttes High School. She is a 6-year letter winner and team captain for the Chargers under head coach Tom Moore. Guthmiller holds a personal record of 127’6” in the discus, holding the Sully Buttes school record. She finished as the state runner- up in the discus in 2017. Guthmiller is also a member of the basketball, , and teams at Sully Buttes. She is the daughter of Clark and Lisa Guthmiller.

Jackson Harrison // Aberdeen, S.D. // Aberdeen Central HS Jackson Harrison is a distance runner competing in both track and field and cross country out of Aberdeen Central High School. He is a 5-year letter winner and 3-year team captain for the Golden Eagles under head coach Greg Murley. Harrison holds personal records of 16:17 in the 5k for cross country, along with 4:38 in the 1600m, and 9:54 in the 3200m on the track. He is a 2- time all-conference selection and the 2017 ESD Conference and South Dakota State runner-up in cross country, leading the Golden Eagles to back-to-back ESD Conference Champions in 2016 and 2017. Harrison is also a 2-time all-conference pick, and all-state honoree in track and field. Harrison is also a member of the soccer and hockey teams. He is the son of Kari and Steve Harrison.

Kealy Hill //Gillette, Wyo. // Thunder Basin HS Kealy Hill is a pole vaulter out of Thunder Basin High School. She is a 4-year letter winner and team captain for the Bolts under head coach Tanner Kelting. As a junior, Hill set a personal record of 12’1”, while winning the 2017 outdoor state title. She is a 2-time indoor state place winner and 3-time outdoor state place winner. In 2017 she was named to both the all- conference and all-state teams. The Bolts are 3-time indoor state champions, 2-time outdoor state champions, and 3-time regional champions. Hill is also a member of the volleyball team and is a state qualifier. She is the daughter of Drew Hill and Lezlie Kinsinger.

Ilynn Jaycox // Pipestone, Minn. // Dell Rapids HS Ilynn Jaycox is a sprinter out of Dell Rapids High School. She is a 4-year letter winner for the Quarriers under head coach Steve Hegge. Jaycox is a multiple time state qualifier in the 100m and 4X100 meter relay. She is also a member of the basketball team. She is the daughter of Dean and Tracy Jaycox.

Jordyn Sterud // Appleton, Minn. // Lac Qui Parle Valley HS Jordyn Sterud is a middle distance and distance runner out of Lac Qui Parle Valley High School, who will compete in both track and field and cross country. She is a 5-year letter winner in both sports for the Eagles under the direction of head coaches John Shurb and Jon Kvaal. Sterud holds personal records of 19:49 in the 5000m, 12:09 in the 3200m, 5:34 in the 1600m, and 2:25 in the 800m. As a freshman she earned the Rookie of the Year award in both cross country and track and field. Sterud is a 4-time all-conference honoree, 2-time conference champion, and 3-time state qualifier in cross country. She is also a 2-time all-conference selection and 3-time conference champion (2016: mile, 2017: mile and 2 mile) on the track. Sterud is a member of the school record holding 4x800 relay team in 2015. She is also a member of the Eagle basketball team. She is the daughter of Steven and Jodi Sterud.

Jared Tyrrell // Pender, Neb. // Pender Public Schools Jared Tyrrell is a sprinter out of Pender Public Schools. He is a 4-year letter winner for the Pendragons. Tyrrell holds person records of 22.8 in the 200m and 51.8 in the 400m. He finished third at the State Meet in 2016 as a member of the 4x400m relay. He is the son of Nicole Tyrrell and Brian Feltes.
