COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 4, 2019

A meeting of the Senate Committee on Environmental Quality was scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Building.

The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 255 (Sen. LaSata). 2. Presentation by the Drinking Water and Environmental Health Division of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy regarding the Division and its responsibilities. 3. Presentation by the American Water Works Association regarding an overview of the Association and the critical issues it is working on.

The Chairman called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman Outman, Sen.(s) Daley, Johnson, VanderWall, McBroom, Bayer, and Brinks, a quorum was present.

The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from April 23, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted.

The Chairman invited Sen. LaSata to summarize SB 255.

The Chairman invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 255: Doug Needham, Michigan Aggregate Association – Support Aaron Keatley and MaryAnn Dolehanty, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy – Support

The Chairman read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 255: Thomas Gilpin, Michigan Sierra Club – Neutral Mike Johnston, Michigan Manufacturers Association – Support

The Chairman invited Aaron Keatly, Chief Deputy Director of the DEQ, and Assistant Division Director Amy Lachance to give a presentation providing an overview of the Drinking Water and Environmental Health Division of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.

There being no further business before the committee, the Chairman moved to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 1:55 p.m.
