  • Newcastle Great Park
Newcastle Great Park Key details Name Newcastle Great Park Location Newcastle Number of dwellings More than 4,400 expected Date first homes sold 2002 Homes delivered to date Around 1,500 Percentage of affordable homes 6% (plus £1 million contribution for affordable homes off-site) Average house price £341,000 Road vehicle trips forecast 3,628 AM peak; 3,708 PM peak external trips (many of which relate to employment not residential dwellings) Walking distance to railway station 33 mins (Tyne & Wear Metro) Total land area 484 ha Background and context of development One of the largest housing developments in the north-east of England, Newcastle Great Park is a major urban extension to the north of Newcastle, Tyne and Wear. Gaining outline planning consent in 2000, it was able to meet the ‘very special circumstances’ required for green belt release, in an era when strong Brownfield First policies were in place. This may have been aided by an agreement that 1 initially linked development at NGP with brownfield development in inner areas of Newcastle, aiming for a ratio of two-thirds brownfield development to one-third greenfield. The site is large and contains a diverse range of housing types, plus many areas that are still in progress or yet to be developed. According to the 2000 outline consent, development within each of the constituent cells must be carried out according to a Development Site Strategy Statement approved by the council for that cell. The first sections to be built were Cells H and I to the east of the A1.

  • Newcastle Conservative Federation
Newcastle Conservative Federation Newcastle City Council Electoral Review – Draft Boundaries Submission August 2016 This is a response from the Newcastle Conservative Federation to the Local Government Boundary Commission’s draft proposals for electoral ward boundaries within Newcastle upon Tyne. It draws on the views expressed to us by our members and local residents. We have chosen not to submit a full alternative response to the Commission’s proposals but would like to offer some thoughts on some specific ward proposals where we have received feedback from our members or residents. Newcastle Conservatives responded to the original consultation on warding arrangements by expressing its view that the number of councillors should reduce from the current level of seventy-eight. Our original proposal was to reduce the number of councillors to fifty-two representing fifty-two single member wards. However we acknowledged that were the Council and the Commission to continue to divide the number of councillors by three then the reduction should be to fifty-four councillors with three members each representing one of eighteen wards. We set out our reasons for this in detail which we have attached as an appendix to this submission. The strong arguments in favour of a reduction appeared initially to have been accepted by the Commission, however the Commission then changed its mind after protests from the City Council. We remain disappointed that the Commission chose to cave in to pressure from Labour councillors and declined to take this opportunity to reduce the cost of politics in Newcastle and provide the City with an adequate level of representation.

Please reverse the decision on the Dene adn Manor Park ward boundariues decision and choose Newcastle Council’s Option 1 for area C as this is more in line with our communities and services. Thank you, Karon Alderman 1 ‐‐ Jonathan Ashby Review Assistant LGBCE From: Sent: 19 August 2016 13:07 To: reviews <[email protected]> Subject: Draft recommendations for Newcastle City Council Good Morning, I have attached an extract from your document concerning the above issue which is a little confusing - apologies if you are already aware of this.. As I reside in North Walbottle I have always thought that we have little in common with the existing Newburn ward and fully support the creation of a new Chapel ward and North Walbottle's inclusion within it. However, on reading the document, there is an apparent contradiction (which I assume is a simple slip of the pen/keyboard) - I have highlighted the error in yellow, and which should read simply Walbottle and not North Walbottle? Thank you.

  • The Martin Road Project
THE 02-52 MARTIN ROAD PROJECT Crime and Disorder Reduction Northumbria Police ACC Paul Leighton Contact: Sergeant Steve Todd Wallsend Area Command 20 Alexandra Street Wallsend Telephone: 0181214 6555 ext 63311 Fax: 01661 863354 Email: [email protected] Martin Road Project - Executive Summary THE Martin Road area of Howdon, North Tyneside, is like many others in urban Britain. A mainly local authority-run estate, its high levels of unemployment and deprivation had led to an acceptance by residents and local agencies that anti-social behaviour and juvenile disorder were inevitable. But in this particular area, the problems gradually worsened until they reached a stage where effective, permanent, sustainable action was the only option. In the six months from January 1 2001, incidents of serious disorder were becoming excessive. They peaked between March and May 2001 when police officers and fire-fighters were regularly attacked by large groups of missile-throwing youths, council houses were set on fire and nearby Metro trains and other property damaged. The residents shared the views of the emergency services that enough was enough and brought their problems to the March meeting of the local Police and Community Forum. A month later the first meeting of the Martin Road Public Safety Group was held and the first step had been taken on the road to recovery. People representing the police, the local authority, a housing association, the fire service, local businesses, the main transport operator, residents and schools met to tackle the problem - and find a solution - together. Shared information and a residents survey confirmed high levels of serious disorder including arson, damage and missile throwing.
