So in 2016 the board considered how best to address this need and took the decision to apply for EMFF funding for a self propelled amphibious slipway hoist capable of lifting their vessels for maintenance here at Wells. Funding approval was received in De- cember 2016. After much delay from the supplier, the Port finally took delivery of the new self propelled slipway hoist at the end of May 2018. Capable of lifting 35 tonnes, the hoist has already proven itself to be a great carbon footprint. The hoist was mainly funded by a grant from the EMFF with the local Inshore Fishermen making a donation and the balance being funded from the Port’s financial reserves.
