DENVER BRONCOS TRAINING CAMP QUOTES (8/17/11)

HEAD COACH JOHN FOX

On Injury Report “These guys are all the same, [DT] Ty Warren, [DT] Marcus Thomas, [WR] Demaryius Thomas, [TE] Richard Quinn, [OL] Stanley Daniels, and [DT] Ronnell Brown has an ankle sprain- little dings in practice, and all precautionary. [T] had a knee irritation, Dawkins had an ankle irritation, and Lloyd had a knee irritation, so we held them out; nothing serious.”

On his two starting defensive tackles and DE Elvis Dumervil on the ground at one time “Yeah, it looked like a field goal block, a block left and a block right, all at once; but, they did a good job of avoiding it at the last second and avoiding anything really bad happening. It’s just a little tweak, and we held [T] Ryan [Clady] out, but there were some pretty good players there in the pile.”

On the running game “It’s the essence of football, I think, being able to run the ball and the mind set it takes to run the ball and stopping a run defensively. I think it defines your team. A lot of it is pad level and just the tenacity to keep grinding. It’s kind of like body blows in a heavy weight fight; they take their toll later in the fight or later in the game, and you won’t see the results on them early, but they show their ugly head later.”

On the offensive line’s mentality with the running game “I think we are capable; there’s no doubt. If you ask an offensive lineman whether they’d rather pass block or run block, I think 99.9 percent it’s a run block because it kind of fits their mold a little better. I think all of the advantage is with the offense there—probably some of the bigger athletic mismatches there are in football today. Athleticism and size works to the advantage of the offense.”

On C JD Walton “He is a scrappy guy. He is a fun guy to be around, and he’s a good teammate, so again, those captains last week were named by me. We’ll eventually vote for them; the team will vote for them. He’s kind of the [of the offensive line]; he makes a lot of the calls, a lot of the directions. We’ve got a fairly young bunch there that has kind of grown together. They played a lot together last year, and hopefully they can be a year better this year.”

On WR Brandon Lloyd “Well, I think without a doubt you look at him last year, he had a great year, represented our team at the , and I think he’s definitely capable. He’s very athletic; he’s got great body control in the air. He finds a way to come down with the ball, and that’s a big attribute as a receiver.”

On WR Brandon Lloyd stretching the field “I think he’s a tough match up for people. I think it’s hard for one person to cover him, and if you can draw a double coverage, it makes them play a little bit more of a split safety type box scheme. It opens up your run game, and you try to get your run game going to get that singled up, and then you’ve got some big plays when you have that kind of talent out there.”

On the acquisition of DT DeMario Pressely “Well, I think we’ve got some familiarity with him. Dennis Allen, our defensive coordinator, had some background with him in New Orleans, and our scouting department liked him, so he’ll define that when he gets here.”
