Morgan Horse mdop, Leominster, MasScr,.. Dear Mr. Eusey: We have recently made a d ision to dispose of all of our Morgan breeding stock and have culled and cut down t animals which we feel sure Morgan breeders will be inter- ested in securing. In pricing these Morgans we ar classifying them and putting a top price on each classification. This top price ill be the price of the first animal chosen by the buyer out of that particular clasification. Each succeeding time a choice is made from a classification the price of hat particular animal will be determined by deducting $5.00 from the price paidor the preceeding animal. As an example, the top price on the 8 head of bred is $280.00. The first animal chosen is $280.00, the second animal $275.00, thid animal $270.00 and so on down to number 8, her price being $240.00. The classifications are priced as follows \ top price 23 brood mares -,.._ $400.00 8 three year old bred fillies \ 280.00 11 two year old fillies ‘ 200.00 16 yearling filly colts N-180.00 14 yearling stud colts 170.00 v. 3 breeding studs, $1,000, $500, $250 The mares are all bred to Panfield, Triumph, a young on of Mentor, or to a stud we call Sunny, he being out of one of our better mares nd the sire of the colt which was given in the Colt Contest. The yearlings and wo year olds are all sired by these studs. Being primarily interested in securing homes for these anim s where they will be appreciated and taken care of we will endeavor to work out t nsportation arrange- Ments for a group of animals going to the same general localit We will be pleased to furnish any other information desired, but ish to emphasize that these Morgans should be seen by prospective p chasers to be prey ted. She bucked a few times, crow-hopped and cantered and then, of her own volition circled the high- fenced enclosure at a spanking trot. Barefooted she was but her high square action was truly show ring stuff. Blocky of body, fine of neck, jowl and head she was a picture Morgan, a thing to stir the cockles of the heart of any one with a sense of Morgan appreciation. "How much?" asked the potential buyer and then gulped when the breeder quoted a figure. He climbed into his car and left soon after. We had watched this bit of sales display and when it was over we walked over to the breeder, Ted Davis of Windsor, Vt. "You must watch those quota- tions, Ted," we cautioned him. Who Are the Plain Anabaptists? What Are the Plain Anabaptists? -- Anderson Who Are the Plain Anabaptists? What Are the Plain Anabaptists? Cory Anderson1 OSU Presidential Fellow and Doctoral Candidate in Rural Sociology School of Environment and Natural Resources The Ohio State University Abstract: I define the plain Anabaptists by answering two essential questions: “Who are the plain Anabaptists” and “What are the plain Anabaptists?” In asking “Who are the plain Anabaptists?” I investigate several dimensions of identity. First, I trace the history of seven religious traditions within Anabaptism: the Swiss Brethren/Mennonites, the Low German/Russian Mennonites, the Hutterites, the Amish, the Brethren, the Apostolic Christian Churches, and the Bruderhof. Second, I explore three categories of people in each group—mainline, conservative, and Old Order—describing the last two as “plain.” Third, I explore scales and indices on which plainness is measured, as well as other measures of who the plain Anabaptist people are. In asking “What are the plain Anabaptists?” I define several ways social scientists conceptualize and describe the plain Anabaptists. I organize the sundry definitions and frames under three categories: the plain Anabaptists as a religious group, as an ethnicity, and as a social system. Keywords: Mennonite, Amish, Brethren, Hutterite, Apostolic Christian, Bruderhof, religious traditions, ethnicity, social system 26 | Page Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies, Volume 1, Issue 1 (April), 2013 Introduction The inauguration

This, however, requires the greatest skill; first, to throw the rope over the horse's head and not on the rider, and second, to stop the horse In such a way that the rider will not be unseated. The men have become so expert with their lariats that they can catch a bicy- clist going full speed and bring him to a standstill without throwing him from hi3 wheel. Several times expert wheelmen have endeavored to pass on forbidden ground, despite the remonstrance of the officers. Trusting to the speed of their wheels they have rushed ahead only to be brought up with a round turn and a rope around their neck.

  • "Horse and Buggy Days" Carroll County Times Article for 22 June
"Horse and Buggy Days" Carroll County Times article for 22 June 1997 By Jay A. Graybeal Prior to the advent of the automobile in the early twentieth century, horses provided most of the private transportation for local residents. Nearly every household possessed a horse and buggy or a farm wagon which was used to transport the family around the county. A sleigh was used when snow and ice covered the roads. Horse drawn vehicles were generally reliable and safe, however, accidents were not uncommon. The following article from the 19 May 1883 issue of the Westminster Democratic Advocate newspaper describes several mishaps: "An unusual number of accidents have occurred in this county within the past ten days, persons in nearly every case being more or less hurt by runaway horses. Last Sunday Miss Kate Lloyd and her brother attended service at Stone Chapel, near Warfieldsburg. After the morning service Miss Lloyd was sitting in the buggy, and her brother was preparing to feed the horse. After taking off the bridle, and before a halter could be put on, the animal ran off, upsetting the buggy and throwing the young lady against a tree, cutting a gash several inches long over the right eye and bruising one of her lower limbs. The same animal got frightened at a train of cars at Finksburg about four weeks previous and ran off, throwing Scott Lloyd from the carriage and cutting the back of his head severely. Dr. James P. Summers attended both cases. On Monday last, whilst the North Pleasant Valley Band was playing opposite the Marsh House, this city, the horse of Mr.
