START ME UP — The Stars open the 2019-20 season on Thursday night against Boston at American Airlines Center, marking the ninth-straight season the team has opened the campaign at home. — The Stars come into Thursday’s contest having earned points in 21 of 25 home openers since the team moved to Dallas, boasting a 17-4-4 record and outscoring opponents 86-52 in those contests. — Dallas has also earned points in nine of its last 11 season openers (6-2-3) and holds a 14-4-7 record in the first regular-season game of the season since 1993-94. — Thursday’s opener will mark the first time these two franchises have met to start the season.

KILLING IN THE NAME OF — The Stars led the NHL during the 2019 Playoffs with a 94.6% penalty kill percentage, allowing just two power play goals against during the postseason. — During the 2018-19 regular season, the Stars finished second in the Western Conference and fifth in the NHL with an 82.8% penalty kill percentage. — Dallas allowed just 41 power play goals against, which was tied for fifth in the League in 2018-19. — The club also finished seventh in the NHL on home ice, going 83.9% on the penalty kill, while its 18 power play goals against surrendered at home were tied for the third-fewest in the League.

THE FULL MONTY — On May 4, 2018, the Dallas Stars introduced Jim Montgomery as the team’s 23rd head coach in franchise history and the eighth in Dallas Stars history. — Montgomery led the Stars to a 43-32-7 record in his first season as bench boss, good for a .567 points percentage. His .567 points percentage is the third-highest earned in franchise history by a head coach in his first season with the club, while his 43 wins also rank third. — With the team’s berth in the 2019 , Montgomery becomes the third coach in Dallas Stars history (since 1993-94) to guide the team to the postseason in his first full season as an NHL head coach. — Montgomery joins Ken Hitchcock, who did so in 1997, and , who reached the postseason in 2003. Montgomery also joins Tippett as the only two coaches in Dallas Stars history with no previous NHL head coaching experience to win their first-ever playoff series.

IN WITH THE NEW — The Stars signed forward Joe Pavelski to a three-year contract on July 1, 2019. — Pavelski registered 64 points (38-26=64) in 75 regular-season games with San Jose in 2018-19 campaign, finishing tied for 14th in the NHL and leading the team with 38 goals, matching his second-highest regular-season total. — He shared 12th in the League and led the Sharks with 12 power play goals, while he finished tied for first on the team with six game- winning goals. — In 2018-19, the native of Plover, Wis. became the fifth player in the history of the NHL to record 700 career points and the 13th to reach the 900 games played plateau among players selected 200th or later in the NHL Draft. — The three-time NHL All-Star departed the Sharks ranked second in team history in goals (355), power play goals (121) and game- winning goals (60), while he ranked third in points (761) and assists (406) and fourth in games played (963).

THREE’S COMPANY — Stars defensemen Miro Heiskanen, Esa Lindell and John Klingberg each reached the 10-goal mark during the 2018-19 campaign. — Heiskanen led the way scoring 12 goals in his rookie campaign, while Lindell finished the season second among club blueliners with a career-high 11 tallies and Klingberg ranked third with 10 markers on the season. — This marks the first time in franchise history that the Stars have had three different defensemen each score 10-or-more goals in a single season. — Prior to 2018-19, two Stars blueliners have scored at least 10 goals in the same season 11 times, with the most recent coming during the 2014-15 campaign when (16) and John Klingberg (11) each surpassed the 10-goal mark.

TYLER THE CREATOR — Stars forward Tyler Seguin led the Stars in goals, assists and points (33-47=80) in 82 regular-season games in 2018-19. — The forward has now posted at least 25 goals and 60 points in each of his last six seasons, and is one of only four NHLers to have done so in every season since the 2013-14 campaign, joining Pittsburgh’s , Chicago’s Patrick Kane and Washington’s Alex Ovechkin. — Seguin becomes just the third player in franchise history (since 1967-68) to record 60-or-more points in six-straight seasons, joining Dave Gagner who did so from 1988-89 to 1993-94 and Bill Goldsworthy who did so from 1969-70 to 1974-75. — The Toronto, Ont. native is also the first player in franchise history to reach the 60-point plateau in each of his first six seasons with the club.

BISH BETTER HAVE MY MONEY — Dallas goaltender Ben Bishop established a new career high with a 233:04 shutout streak from March 2 – 19, 2019, stopping 113 shots faced and posting a 5-0-0 record during the span. — His 233:04-long streak without allowing a goal becomes the longest such streak in franchise history, surpassing Ed Belfour’s previous record of 219:34, which he established from Nov. 15 – 29, 2000. — Bishop’s streak also marked the longest by an NHL goaltender since the 2015-16 campaign when San Jose’s Martin Jones logged a shutout streak of 234:33 from Oct. 7 – 16, while Bishop’s mark of 233:04 becomes the 24th-longest in NHL history. — Bishop finished second in the Vezina Trophy voting in 2018-19 after posting a 27-15-2 record, a .934 save percentage, a 1.98 goals- against average and seven shutouts in 46 appearances. — His .934 SV% led the NHL and establishes a new franchise record for best save percentage in a single season, while he ranked second in the League in GAA (1.98), both marking new career highs. — The native of Denver, Colo. also established a new career best and finished the season ranked third in the NHL with seven shutouts.

MIRO, MIRO ON THE WALL — Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen finished the 2018-19 campaign with 33 points (12-21=33) in 82 regular-season games to become to first rookie blueliner in Stars history to skate in all 82 games of the regular season in his rookie season. — Heiskanen was tied for 10th among League rookies with 33 points and 11th with 12 goals, while he ranked third with 182 shots on goal. — His 12 goals are the most scored by a rookie defenseman in Dallas Stars history, while he also established new franchise marks for most goals (12) and points (33) recorded by a teenage defenseman. — The blueliner also ranked third among all NHL rookies in 2018-19 with four game-winning goals, establishing a new franchise record for most game winners by a rookie defenseman. — Heiskanen was named to the 2019 NHL All-Star Game, becoming just the third rookie in franchise history to be named to the All-Star Game. At 19 years, 192 days old on the day of the All-Star Game, he is the second-youngest player in franchise history to play in the game behind Don Beaupre (19 years, 144 days).
