UNIFIED FIRE AUTHORITY CONTROLS WILDLAND FIRE IN NORTH OLYMPUS COVE AREA

MILLCREEK. Crews from the Unified Fire Authority have fully contained a 1.6 acre fire that burned in above Plateau Drive in Millcreek yesterday. No evacuations were ordered after the wildland fire started around 3:30 p.m.

Some 40 UFA firefighters responded to the fire, along with two single engine air tankers that were able to secure the edges of the wildfire.

Water pressure built behind fire hydrants created a "water hammer" that broke through three water mains in the neighborhood after firefighters turned off the hydrants. Salt Lake City Public Utilities, which provides water for most of Millcreek, will begin addressing street repairs next week. In the meantime, the City is investigating implementation of a comprehensive maintenance and replacement program for Millcreek's water system. Posted on by J Wolf @jwolfski

MILLCREEK PROMISE PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS STEP UP

The Promise Program had the opportunity to provide a service project for the Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service, which is coordinated by "Canyon Rim is Community".

Kayla Mayers, Millcreek's Promise Program Manager, worked with Millcreek residents Nate Gibby, Coy Clawson, Colleen Farmer, and Lual Arok to plan the project of building six more Little Libraries in Millcreek. They got a small group of individuals together to install the posts in cement in the week leading up to the big event of actually installing the new Little Libraries and filling them with books.

On the morning of July 17th, the project was completed by six volunteers. They secured the Little Libraries onto their posts and filled them with books. These Little Libraries are added to the 10 Little Libraries that are already around the city, for a total of 16. The concept of the Little Libraries is to take a book and/or leave a book to feel that sense of community when sharing resources and experiencing our neighborhoods. If you see one, please take a look inside to see if there are any books that are of interest to you. If you’d like to know more about Little Libraries or the Promise Program, reach out to Kayla Mayers at [email protected] or (801) 654-4304. Please also follow Millcreek Promise on .

August 9: David Burchfield & The Fire Guild (Americana)

David Burchfield writes Americana that swaggers wildly through raw emotion within a meticulously written and arranged package. With connections to his indie folk, classic country, and bluegrass roots, Burchfield carves a unique path in the folk-rock world with his powerful 5-piece, the Fire Guild. has said: "This type of solid songcraft would make Burchfield fit right in on a bill with the likes of Lucinda Williams or ." Burchfield’s literate lyrics meet emotive grace in nods to Jason Isbell, Mandolin Orange, and David Ramirez. There is a powerful candor in Burchfield’s writing – raw, emotive, and rich with details that bring the listener right into the scene of his passion. Critics have called his 5-piece band, David Burchfield & the Fire Guild, akin to “ meets the Stray Birds” – equal parts all out roots rock party and sensitively arranged balladry. www.davidburchfieldmusic.com

ALSO MONDAY - IF YOU PREFER CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR A GOOD CAUSE! Traffic Advisory for Millcreek Upcoming Road Work - Chip Sealing

Please be advised that Chip Sealing Operations will begin next week on the roadways listed below: 2700 EAST from HILLSIDE LANE to 3900 SOUTH - August 9, 2021 700 WEST through Millcreek - August 10, 2021 500 WEST through Millcreek - August 10, 2021

Weather permitting, work is expected to begin on the dates mentioned. Sweeping is done three days after completion of the chip seal. A speed limit of 15 mph will be posted. These roads have been selected due to cracks and deteriorated areas. This new surface treatment is more economical and will extend and preserve the durability of the roads.

Please pay attention to work zone signs and flaggers directions. DO NOT drive over the fresh black oil because it will adhere to your tires along with the stone. Until the roads are swept, loose stone can cause significant problems for riders, runners, and walkers. Driving too quickly will cause loose stone to get tossed in the air and create dust, limit visibility, and do damage to vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. For these reasons, please drive SLOWLY. Do not exceed 15 mph until signs have been removed. Roads will be swept 2 to 3 days after the Chip Sealing process and the posted 15 mph signs will be removed.

We apologize for the inconvenience you may experience during this time and appreciate your patience while we improve our roadways.

For additional information regarding this project, please contact Salt Lake County Public Works Operations at (385) 468-6101 or by e-mail [email protected]
