Top call of the 45.6 – 52 81 167 70.20 161.68 day was £81.00 given for a pen of heavyweights 52+ 80 148 80 148.15 from Steve Cleverdon of with others at £80 for Messrs White of Bow. Overall 81 173 73.06 164.01 Premium on the day was set at 173p/kg for a pen of 44kg lambs in from G.Cowling of Bude with the SQQ average on the day at 165.26p/kg.

436 DRAFT EWES Big numbers at Holsworthy again with the trade a bit easier. Best ewes again in demand saw a top call of £83.50 for some heavyweights from Messrs E.G Bluett & Son of North Tamerton with others from Messrs Stephens of Babbington at £74.50 and IC Cowling at £79.50. A few “grazing buyers” present helped the trade however with lots of lean ewes forward the market average stood at £50.80.

1051 BREEDING & STORE SHEEP

A superb entry of breeding sheep saw a much improved trade with the pick of the 2 tooth ewes hitting £115.00 for Ken & Mike Hill of Bideford with Messrs Stanbury of Whitstone close up at £110.00 for the 1st of his 3 pens. Older full mouth ewes came in from Messrs Dufty Brothers and hit £73.00 for a line up of 40.

Godfrey & Owen Davey saw a superb trade for their consignment of 208 Mule ewe lambs that topped at £92 for 2 pens (22) with the next 6 pens at £88 and £87. Their top 100 ewe lambs sold to a very impressive average of £87.60 with plenty of bidders present. Messrs Heal saw their run of 60 Suffolk ewe lambs reach £84 going off to their new home near Liskeard, Cornwall. Texel x Mule ewe lambs topped at £82 for Steve Cleverdon of Hatherleigh.

70 Stock Rams saw a strong trade with a 75% clearance. Top of the day was £350.00 for the pick of a smart team of Charollais rams from Steven Dennis of Bow with the best of the Suffolks from Bernard Strout at £290, £280 and £260.

Quite a busy week with over 300 bales sold to include a lorry and trailer load of straw at Holsworthy market on Wednesday reaching £20.00 per bale (£1600 for 80 bales). Just over 200 Round Bale haylage sold this week with the best hitting £29.00 per bale for a consignment of 100 in mid Cornwall.

Much more interest this week with new buyers in attendance pushing the best of a lovely run of Blue Bulls in from Messrs K & H Cobbledick of to a fantastic £515 with other strong bulls at £485 & £425 (x2) from the same good home. Messrs Petherick & Son of Kilkhampton again sold quality Blue Bulls to £390 and price matched for the pick of another tidy line up from Steve Daniels of Torrington. Mike Hopper of Whitstone enjoyed a really good trade for his baby Blue bull 4 weeks old at £385 with the best from Trevor Lane of Cury, West Cornwall at £372. Mark Sanders saw the best of his trio of strong Simmentals to £515 (x2) with a 1st Class line up of baby Charolais Bulls from Messrs S & E Kirk, of hitting £365, £325 (x2) & £300. Johnny & Marg Britton took top slot in the Herefords (Named Sires) at £272 whilst top Angus bulls (Named Sires) reached £270 for Messrs Luxton and £238 for the pick of 15 (3 week) old Angus in from Messrs Pincombe of Warkleigh. Black & White bulls were a very difficult trade with limited buyers present. Top of the Holstein bulls was £92 on behalf of Steve Daniels. In the heifer pens Messrs Cobbledick took the top 4 places at £350, £310 & £305 with John Tallamy close up at £282 and the best of another quality line up from John Colgrove & Partners of St Ewe, Cornwall at £282. Limousin heifers saw plenty of interest tipping at £230 for P & C Isaac of with the top Herefords at £252 for John Britton of .

Angus heifers were plentiful and saw Trevor Lane of Cornwall top at £150, a price matched by Ed & Will Dunn of with their best.
