In her younger days she lived at Hammersmith Villas, Antrobus. In the 1881 Census Fanny Hindley was aged 3 years, born at Antrobus, and living with her parents in the Pools Platt area of Antrobus. The family was actually living at Hammersmith Villas.

Fanny attended Arley School, which was about a mile away across the fields. At the time of the 1891 Census Fanny, aged 13, had left school and was a dressmaker’s apprentice. As her mother was a dressmaker it is likely that Fanny was learning from her mother. Fanny was still living with her parents in the Pools Platt area of Antrobus.

Although the 1901 Census lists Fanny (aged 23) and her parents as living in the area of Hill Farm, Antrobus I believe they were still at Hammersmith Villas. Her brother, Frank, aged 28, was also at home. Fanny was a dressmaker working from home.
