Afternoon Tea in aid of mission to Orphanage in Pravadia, Bulgaria held at St Mary’s Church

May I take this opportunity in thanking all those who helped to make the afternoon tea a roaring success. As I explained at the time I am (to say the least) absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity and help I have received in raising money to enable me to help with this mission. The collection of donations made to St Mary’s on my behalf of £212.00 is greatly appreciated and I have to thank, again, the team of cake and sandwich makers for making this happen. May I also thank all thoe who attended the afternoon tea and gave so generously.

For your reassurance, all monies donated are being recorded as will all expenses incurred during the trip. Further to this I will be posting regular updates on the village facebook page as to the progress we will be making on the building works during our eight day mission.

For those who are unaware of what we inted to be doing during our visit to Pravadia orphanage its this:- For the last 18 months—two years the gymnasium at the orphanage has been closed to the children due to the inside of the roof being in a bad state of repair and debris constantly falling onto the gym floor. Our intention is to build a lowered celing complete with joists and wall plates and covered with 20mm plywood to prevent any debris falling and causing injury to children or staff. This way the gymnasium can be opened again without fear of injury.

My friends who have been involved with this project (The house of Rachel) for many years have completed works such as renovating school rooms, upgrading toilets, painting and decorating bedrooms, replacing doors and windows, building interior toilet facilities, creating disabled access and many other jobs have been completed. In addition to this the charity has provided items such as:- cooking range, school equipment including books in Braille for the blind children, a car and minibus, musical instruments, donating a halfway house for children leaving state care, purchase of crafted quilts to help keep the children warm in the very cold winters for example – 20 degrees.

14 23

There are many other ways that the charity has helped which can be seen on the website www.houseofrachel.org.

I am really looking forward to my trip to help with these proposed building works and as we say giving something back. As the heading on ‘Connected’ suggest ‘Christian Love in Action’.

Thank you everyone for your kind support.

A Prayer for Bible Sunday WORDSEARCH Gracious God, we praise you for the way your word has spoken to so many across the years, offering a lamp for their path and a faith to live by. We thank you for the way it has spoken to us, stirring our imagination, kindling and nurturing faith, confronting and questioning, yet also renewing and uplifting, each day assuring us of your constant love and gracious purpose. Teach us to study your word, to reflect on its meaning, and to seek enlightenment, so that we may hear your voice and respond. Open our hearts and minds to what you would say to us, and help us to listen. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Nick Fawcett

Holsworthy Mission Community Prayer

Loving God, receive our love, refresh our vision, renew our lives, so that together our Mission Community may witness to the truth of your gospel, build up our fellowship and deepen our commitment to grow in prayer. May our lives of discipleship draw others to follow Jesus Christ. Lead us into creative ways to service the people of Devon with joy, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Christians Together in Holsworthy and District run a small Foodbank that operates one afternoon a week to support the local community by providing 3 days of emergency food supplies to local people in difficult circumstances. We are here to help Holsworthy District families in a crisis on a short term basis. We open on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm until 4pm and also welcome “Pop-In”s for a cup of tea.

We are currently experiencing a shortage of volunteers to man the foodbank and are seeking a few more volunteers who could give us one afternoon a month so that we can continue to provide this facility in Holsworthy. If you feel you could help us out please drop- in to see us or contact Sarah Gainsbury (current co-ordinator) on 01409 259227 or by email [email protected].

Alternatively, visit our website www. http:// holsworthyfoodbank.btck.co.uk/ and send a message via the “Contact Us” page.
