Feb 24, Mandi Coyne rated it it was ok Shelves: non-fiction. Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein should be ashamed that a tree had to die in order to print this book. If you have not seen the show, there's no point in you reading this book. Actually, if you have seen the show there's no point in you reading this book, either. Throughout the book the authors reference skits they have performed on the show and talk about fictional destinations you can find in "Portlandia. It would have been better if they would have talke Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein should be ashamed that a tree had to die in order to print this book. I'm sure there would be many people in this area who would be more than willing to have a little fun poked at them especially if that meant exposure for their business! I learned nothing about Portland and I was not even slightly entertained. Save a tree. Watch the show and don't waste your money on this book. View 2 comments. Dec 26, Susan Rose rated it liked it Shelves: humourexpanded-universe. This is a comedy books written by the creators of the show Portlandia, like many comedy books from T. V shows 'The Mighty Book of Boosh', 'The Mitchell and Webb book' this is really only for fans of the show as a lot of the jokes are call backs to the T. V series. This book is not ground breakingly hilarious but it definitely is amusing and makes me want to re-watch the TV series a lot. This is a great book to read whilst doing other things or to pick up and put down as it is written in very short This is a comedy books written by the creators of the show Portlandia, like many comedy books from T. This is a great book to read whilst doing other things or to pick up and put down as it is written in very short sections. In short I would recommend that this book would make a good gift for any fans of the TV show. The Rating is more like 3. Sep 05, Amber rated it it was ok. Dry and overboard. The copyright page was the most amusing in the whole thing. Probably the whole point. Dec 18, Kevin Stephens rated it it was ok. Jan 22, Shayna Ross rated it really Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors it Shelves: non-fiction. Alright, so first off, don't read this book unless you watched the show. It's honestly not going to make any sense otherwise. Secondly, it's a "guide book" for the city "Portlandia," so it's also not going to have funny stories, it's going to reference generally most things they have done on the show. With that said and done, Portlandia the show and this particular guidebook is something that can come across hilarious, strange, and weirdly sad. It's one of the more culturally and socially in-tu Alright, so first off, don't read this book unless you watched the show. It's one of the more culturally and socially in-tuned comedy shows I have seen in a long while, with a closer focus on the real-life city of Portland, Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors. They take what already exists and make it a bit more extreme or exaggerated. It's guaranteed that even if you don't see in specifically in Portland, you're bound to find hints of it in most major cities. There is also a lot of, what most people refer to as a general category at this point, "hipster" references made, although you have to understand that the hipster genre is so standard and generalized. The name has transformed, twisted, and distorted into Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors it never was, and now is something that isn't Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors anything at all. However, if you want, it's Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors perfectly applicable to put this under a "hipster" type category. It's a fictional non-fiction. It's a non-fiction guide book about a "fictional" town that's based on a non-fiction town and it's non-fiction name, but this specific name is fiction. The fiction stems from Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors. The stories are truths with grains of non-truths. Everything is exaggerated that it's not real, but it is still very real. I think you know what you're getting into. Jan 29, Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors Stephen rated it did not like it. View 1 comment. Jan 18, Marykay Pogar rated it really liked it. I must move here Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors. It seems they all drive just the way I do. What's a turn signal? Jun 03, Elizabeth rated it liked it. A quirky little parody based on the TV show Portandia. As a fan of the show and a native of Portland, Oregon, I found it to be about as funny as the show. A very quick read. Feb 10, Ian rated it it was ok Shelves: hypelandiaportland. Funnier in parts than expected. Why didn't they do a section on North Portland? Run over their page limit with their publisher? Used as a sarcastic joke to say North Portland isn't really "Portland"? Just being lazy? They've never been there? Scared to talk about a quadrant where a lot of people of color and poorer Portlanders got pushed circa it now more being like east of 82nd Ave —not including of course the N Mississippi Ave and N Williams neighborhoods where they've certainly been and Funnier in parts than expected.
